Blues Go Nap Over Reds
Updated Tuesday, 17th July 2012
Carlisle cruise to a 5-0 victory at Borough Park thanks to two goals from David Symington and further strikes from Mark Beck, Danny Cadamarteri and Andy Welsh
After winning 3-0 at Kendal on Friday night it was on to Workington this evening for United where the rain made a comeback, which also with the grass long at this time of year slowed down the playing surface somewhat. Three trialists remaining from the Cosyseal Stadium, in Alessio Bugno, Dale Hopson and Jonathan Meades, while they were joined by two new boys in Scottish pair Mark Kerr and Jim McAlister.
Permanent team member-wise for Carlisle Peter Murphy was back available, Lee Miller was rested, Rory Loy continues to work his way into full fitness, Jon-Paul McGovern remains out for the short-term with a hernia problem, while finally Josh Todd will play for the youth team against Celtic Nation at Gretna on Wednesday evening. That meaning the Blues lined-up at kick-off as follows:
Jim McAlister - Paddy Madden
Paul Thirlwell - Mark Kerr
Alessio Bugno - Peter Murphy - Mike Edwards - Frank Simek
9 mins - Edwards ball up from back, Beck heads down to Madden in right-hand channel, Madden cross into middle flicked on by the head of McAlister, Beck coming in at far-post hits left-footed half-volley from 8 yards into net past Reds goalkeeper Aaran Taylor, 1-0.

Hopson in, Taylor punches clear, play goes on, ball back with Hopson for a cross to the back-stick which Madden heads wide of the target from 6 yards out.
30 mins - Madden low cross in from right, breaks to Beck, left-footed shot on the turn over the top from 15 yards out.
39 mins - Thirlwell concedes a free-kick for high feet on Zach Clark 25 yards out to the left of the United 'D'. David Hewson hits the dead ball straight into the wall, rebound comes back to Mark Boyd who pulls his shot well wide of Adam Collin's right-hand post.

46 mins - Taylor completely misjudges a long pass up the right-hand channel from Livesey and ends up slipping to the floor and watching Symington roll the ball into an empty net from 15 yards out, 2-0.
49 mins - Symington cuts in from the right but pulls a left-footed 20-yard strike wide of Taylor's near-post.
55 mins - Welsh cross in from the left, Symington racing in heads the ball home past Taylor from 10 yards out, 3-0.
