Blues Go Nap Over Reds

After winning 3-0 at Kendal on Friday night it was on to Workington this evening for United where the rain made a comeback, which also with the grass long at this time of year slowed down the playing surface somewhat. Three trialists remaining from the Cosyseal Stadium, in Alessio Bugno, Dale Hopson and Jonathan Meades, while they were joined by two new boys in Scottish pair Mark Kerr and Jim McAlister.

Permanent team member-wise for Carlisle Peter Murphy was back available, Lee Miller was rested, Rory Loy continues to work his way into full fitness, Jon-Paul McGovern remains out for the short-term with a hernia problem, while finally Josh Todd will play for the youth team against Celtic Nation at Gretna on Wednesday evening. That meaning the Blues lined-up at kick-off as follows:

9 mins - Edwards ball up from back, Beck heads down to Madden in right-hand channel, Madden cross into middle flicked on by the head of McAlister, Beck coming in at far-post hits left-footed half-volley from 8 yards into net past Reds goalkeeper Aaran Taylor, 1-0.

14 mins - McAlister and Madden swap wings for a short while.

19 mins - McAlister cross-shot from left edge of box, cleared away near line by Kyle May, pinball around six-yard line results in a Hopson corner which produces nothing for Carlisle.

22 mins - Bugno fouled in left corner by Niall Cowperthwaite, Hopson free-kick rolled across to Murphy 15 yards from goal, left-footed shot from there deflects out for a corner. Hopson in, Taylor punches clear, play goes on, ball back with Hopson for a cross to the back-stick which Madden heads wide of the target from 6 yards out.

30 mins - Madden low cross in from right, breaks to Beck, left-footed shot on the turn over the top from 15 yards out.

39 mins - Thirlwell concedes a free-kick for high feet on Zach Clark 25 yards out to the left of the United 'D'. David Hewson hits the dead ball straight into the wall, rebound comes back to Mark Boyd who pulls his shot well wide of Adam Collin's right-hand post.

 

 

Workington make two changes during the break as Gari Rowntree comes on for Anthony Wright and Lee Andrews replaces Mark Boyd. Carlisle meanwhile line-up for the second-half as follows:

46 mins - Taylor completely misjudges a long pass up the right-hand channel from Livesey and ends up slipping to the floor and watching Symington roll the ball into an empty net from 15 yards out, 2-0.

49 mins - Symington cuts in from the right but pulls a left-footed 20-yard strike wide of Taylor's near-post.

55 mins - Welsh cross in from the left, Symington racing in heads the ball home past Taylor from 10 yards out, 3-0.

57 mins - Workington replace Zach Clark with Mark Sloan. Symington and Welsh swap flanks for a short while for Carlisle.

58 mins - Welsh corner in breaks to Symington 22 yards out at back-post, low and pacey right-footed shot well held by Taylor away to right.

60 mins - Phil Storey comes on for Neil Wainwright for Workington.

62 mins - Cadamarteri to Berrett to Chantler for a left-footed shot from 15 yards out pulled wide of the target.

63 mins - Stuart Dixon replaces Aaran Taylor in goal for Workington.

67 mins - Symington drive from 15 yards out deflects away for a corner. Welsh puts the delivery in which Potts heads over the top from the middle of the Reds penalty area.

70 mins - Robson low ball in from the left ends up at the feet of Noble 15 yards out whose shot from there deflects off May and away from goal.

73 mins - Welsh corner in, Cadamarteri header from 12 yards out goes wide of Dixon's left-hand post.

74 mins - During the break in play Workington make three substitutions as Ryan Hall, Jake Simpson and Stefan Scott come on for Jonny Wright, Dan Wordsworth and Chris Wraighte respectively.

75 mins - Mark Sloan corner in for Workington which Kyle May heads over from 8 yards out.

83 mins - Welsh corner in to far-post headed back across by Potts for Cadamarteri to half-volley easily home from 2 yards out, 4-0.

85 mins - Nice pass through by Noble sends Cadamarteri away down right-hand channel, low ball across finds Welsh racing in to thump it into the net from 8 yards out, 5-0.

89 mins - Robson low ball in, Kyle May fails to clear, Cadamarteri right-footed shot from 12 yards out hits base of Dixon's right-hand post, Chantler thumps rebound over the top from the edge of the box.
