Carlisle chairman Fred Story spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Tuesday evening as he gave his thoughts on the two leg aggregate victory over the Silkmen in the LDV Vans Northern Area Final. It was a result that will give United a great financial boost to their playing budget next season :

" It’s absolutely fantastic, I can’t believe that we’re going to be at Cardiff this year, it’s just absolutely fabulous for the club and the supporters and they deserve it.

" I thought Macclesfield deserved the first-half, they were definitely the better side, we matched them in the second-half and in extra-time we just wanted it more. We battled so hard and really showed character, it shows the belief that they have got in themselves that they don’t put their heads down, they keep battling, that’s the character of the team and the character of the management.

" It’s just another great boost for the club, obviously financially let’s hope we meet Swansea in the final and get a good gate that helps us build for next season, we couldn’t ask for more.

" Probably because the club was going to make some money out of it I think that was the most nervous game I’ve watched, although I maybe shouldn’t say that. That was just an absolutely fantastic game but a horrible game to watch, a great game of football, classic cup football.

" Look at the crowd though. Three out of five, 60% of that gate was Carlisle United supporters, so if you go and put it on supporters alone then we definitely deserved it, I think we deserved it on the night on the pitch as well.

" I thought the goal was in when Brendan (McGill) hit the bar, I was up already. I didn’t notice that it was Simon (Grand) that banged it in, it was just fantastic. We all knew then that they needed two goals, we didn’t think they’d get them, then it’s classic Carlisle United – letting a goal in, you could have written it. What a season though, fantastic. "
