Gary Peters, who was speaking exclusively to Shrewsbury Town's official club website www.shrewsburytown.co.uk, talked about the state of the pitch and the numerous penalty decisions in the game :

"I thought the lads played well in the second half, the first half was scrappy and obviously a couple of penalties changed it. I didn't think Carlisle hurt us in free play; there was one shot that Joe (Hart) had to make but they didn't get in behind us and hurt us.

"The pitch isn't great and it gets a bit scrappy and we have to do the best that we can on it, you're not going to see great football on it for the next couple of months and we apologise for that but I'm sure if we continue to win then the fans won't mind too much.

"I don't know how the ref can judge that the penalty that Joe's saved had to be retaken, if you're a goalkeeper and you throw yourself to one side them your going to come forward a bit, he should keep the linesman out of it and stick with his decision."

"It could have proven costly as we're 1-0 down after Joe's made a great save but then you could say the ref has got it in mind to give us one when it came to Colin (McMenamin), then you have Kelvin's (Langmead) late on which was a no brainier penalty that you had to give.

"Kelvin's come on again, he's burst past the lad with his strength and the only way he can stop him is to bring him down.

"I never speak before the game about who's going to take the penalties and I never will do, for me it's whoever is on the pitch and whoever picks the ball up. Today Jamie Tolley probably would have picked it up if Kevin Sharp hadn't got there first, but Sharpy's said no I'm taking it and it's my responsibility and he finished well. It takes a lot of balls in the game to do that, I used to get my head in and do anything but I'm not sure I'd have the balls to take a penalty.

"Carlisle were tidy but they didn't get behind us as we worked well defending as a team, that was from the forwards back through the team and everyone worked their socks off for this win."
