Southend boss Steve Tilson spoke to BBC Radio Essex after his side went down 2-1 against Carlisle at Brunton Park, Tilson saying that the Shrimpers deserved at least a point out of the game :

" After the first 20 minutes where we never started, I thought from then on we had some good chances after that first 20 minutes. In the second-half I think I can't remember them having another shot. They had the wind in the second-half and we frustrated them. It is definitely disappointing because it looked like they had run out of ideas and it was going to be a draw or we may have nicked one on the counter-attack.

" I have just said to the lads that I thought they were excellent in the second-half and thoroughly deserved to get something out of the game. But he (Joe Anyinsah) can't put it anywhere else otherwise Mildy (Steve Mildenhall) saves it. It is probably the only shot they had in the second-half so I am really disappointed because I felt they had run out of ideas and we were heading for certainly getting a point out of the game.

" We probably had more chances than they did in the second-half. So for them to come out winning was disappointing because the lads have really put a lot of effort in today and frustrated them. They never really looked like hurting us in the second-half but that is life and we move on to Friday night.

" Dougie (Freedman) has got a problem with his groin, so obviously he will be doubtful for Friday. Barney (Lee Barnard) has picked up a booking, that is his fifth, he will be suspended. We haven't got loads and loads of injuries it's just that we haven't got a very big squad, and obviously every injury that we do pick up is making life more difficult, but it is something that we have got to get on with.

" I could have picked seven substitutes but what is the point of bringing seven subs up here and stacking it out with youth players. We had a couple of youth players on the bench, which we made sure we covered every department, defence, midfield and a frontman, and obviously a goalkeeper. So that was the way we did it, but you look around and it is tough to change the game.

" That is why it was so disappointing today because the lads that were out on the pitch have worked ever so hard and deserved to get something out of the game. When things are not quite going for you that tends to happen and that is what happened today.

" I don't know what we do for Friday yet, I haven't thought about Friday yet. Obviously we have got a long journey home so we will have a little think then, but I am just gutted about the result today because I felt we deserved to get something out of the game. "

Meanwhile Shrimpers skipper Adam Barrett told the Southend Echo :

"It's disappointing because I just couldn't see them scoring, we all worked hard and it's disappointing because I thought we were worthy of a point. It's one of the more difficult periods at the moment and there is no hiding that but we all have to be pulling in the right direction.

"We need to all stick together and I think for us to be where we are in the league with everything that has been going on is fantastic. These are difficult circumstances but we have to try and stay positive and keep on playing well."
