United player-manager Paul Simpson spoke exclusively to BBC Radio Cumbria on Saturday evening as he gave his thoughts on the 0-0 draw against Leyton Orient. The result was a good one for the Cumbrians as they avoided defeat away to one of their promotion rivals :

" I think it was a fair enough result, I have to say that it was a fantastic game of football. I thought it was two good sides both going for the victory, we shaded it in the first-half and then towards the end of the second-half they put us under a hell of a lot of pressure. We expected that though because we knew they were a good side.

" I thought we weathered it though, we defended absolutely superbly as a team, Keiren Westwood did what he had to do when he was called upon. I think all-in-all it’s probably a fair result.

" At half-time we said to Zigor Aranalde that he had to be very careful because the referee was going to send him off. If he did anything at all, any little stepping out of line, then he was going to do something about it. I thought in the second-half he (Aranalde) was excellent the way he kept his head, he was very, very disciplined, which I expected because he is a very good professional and he was one of a number of players who put in good performances today to help get us a point.

" The base for us today was not losing, there was no way we could have come here and gone to lose it. We were positive in the way we wanted to go about it and in the first-half I thought that maybe we should have done a little bit better with the opportunities we had. I think we both could have had shouts for penalties, I thought ours was and I thought theirs was as well on the handball. We rode it a little bit with that though and they rode it with the decision for them, it was a good solid performance for us though and we’re delighted with it. "

" Michael Bridges got a whack when he got brought down for what I thought was a penalty, he got whacked across his achilles, which tells you that it was a foul. He just stiffened up as the game went on so we just took him off as a precaution. Glenn Murray went over on his ankle and because there was only a few minutes left we took him off so we could get somebody on who could just go and run around and chase everything around there.

" The Carlisle fans were tremendous, the noise they made as well, I don’t know if it was because I was sat amongst them, but the noise was tremendous. We don’t get taken by surprise though, we appreciate every single one of them turning up and hopefully they will keep turning up between now and the end of the season and we’ll have other things to celebrate as well.

" It was definitely a good point today, we knew we were coming here to make sure we didn’t lose the game and that’s the way we’ve defended it. I thought the way we started was excellent again, I was delighted with the way we set about Chester last weekend and we got the goals. This week we’ve had the right sort of start again, the right attitude and it shows that nobody is going to just rest on their laurels and think that we’ve achieved something because nothing at all has been achieved. So far, we’ve given ourselves a good chance and we’ve got to keep going now right through until the end of the season.

" We knew that before today’s game that this was the first of three big games. The Tuesday night one is now a very important one, if we can go and get three points in that one and do it properly, without getting screwed up about it I think we owe Shrewsbury one anyway, but also it’s a good point today. "
