United player-manager Paul Simpson spoke exclusively to BBC Radio Cumbria yesterday evening as he gave his thoughts on Carlisle's 1-0 reverse that ends their five match unbeaten League run :

" I think today was cruel, especially on the second-half. I think they are a very, very good side though Wycombe, good footballing side, they defended very, very well and we put them under a hell of a lot of pressure in the second half.

" To lose it like that was disappointing but the thing that we’ve got to do is make sure we take all the positives out of the way that we played in the second half because we hurried them, we put them under pressure, we created opportunities and we had a right good go at it.

" Nobody enjoys losing football matches but if you are going to lose then you may as well lose that way and have a right good at it.

" In the first-half they had far too much space to be able to play out and we were screaming at them to get the wide players to push on and not to sit back. They just couldn’t understand what we were trying to get them to do though so we had to do something, we had to change it and we had to go for it. "

" I thought it worked very, very well. The players who came into it, Adam (Murray) and Bridgey (Michael Bridges) definitely made a difference for us and we created chances and we had a go at them and that was the big thing.

" I don’t like watching the first-half where we’ve been put under a lot of pressure and we couldn’t really get out of our own half. So in the second-half it was much better and as I say we can take a lot of plusses but we’re all really disappointed to have lost it that way.

" There is no such thing as a glorious defeat because everybody just looks at the results and the league table and sees that Wycombe have won 1-0 away from home and they are now 19 games unbeaten and maybe they just expect it.

" You don’t really see though what has happened in the game and how we have played and as I keep saying especially in the second-half. We’ve got to make sure that we take the second-half into our next game and we make sure we keep being as positive and we keep pushing on.

" A ten day gap until the next game is not a good or a bad thing. We have to get on with it as it’s our own fault. We’ve got a County Cup game against Harraby Catholic Club which will be a strong side playing in that so the players are getting some football in over the week.

" We’ve got a reserve game on Wednesday and then that one on Friday. We’ve got to make sure that we get everybody right, anybody that has got any slight knocks has got ten days to get rid of it and hopefully they will all be right for the next game.

" The crowd was tremendous today, I think in the second-half especially we’ve given them something to shout about. In the first-half they were getting frustrated, as we were, but they were absolutely fantastic.

" I keep saying, and I said it before today’s game that we don’t have to put appeals out to the fans. They turn up in their numbers and I think in the second-half they have seen that we have had a right good go at it and I just hope they all keep coming back.

" We need that sort of crowd to keep building the club and keep taking the club forward. If we can keep those supporters and if we can keep the players working to give them something to shout about then hopefully we can all keep moving on."
