Simmo speaks
United manager Paul Simpson spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Tuesday evening as he gave his thoughts on the two leg aggregate victory over the Silkmen in the LDV Vans Northern Area Final. It was a hugely tough tie in which the Blues needed 210 minutes to defeat Macclesfield on the away goals rule :

" This is what it’s all about, this is what we came here to do. We’ve made it hard but it’s a fantastic result and we’re delighted we’re there, it’s what we’ve all aimed for.

" We’ve shown real character again, but we’ve had to because we’ve shot ourselves in the foot and we’ve got to stop doing it. We’ll enjoy the night though, we’ll enjoy the celebrations and we’ll start worrying about the other bit after.

" Cardiff is to come, that is a few weeks away but we’ve also got a lovely game to look forward to on Friday. We could have done without extra-time but to win it and go on, everybody will be delighted and hopefully everybody will still be high come Friday.

" I don’t think you can pick any player out, I think everybody has had to work to get something tonight. I’m delighted Grandy (Simon Grand) has got it, Brendan (McGill) has got a good strike in. All-in-all it’s a massive team performance, we’re thrilled with it.

" I don’t care who we get now, it’s too early to think about that. The thing was that we wanted to be there and we are there and we’ll all look forward to that in a few weeks time.

" Hopefully we’re half-way there on promotion and the LDV final, we’ve got one out of the way. Now we’ll concentrate on the Northampton game from tomorrow. "
