United player-manager Paul Simpson spoke exclusively to BBC Radio Cumbria on Boxing Day afternoon as he gave his thoughts on the 1-1 draw with the Quakers that sees the Blues drop down to fifth place in the League Two table. The result stretches Carlisle's unbeaten run to five games but some Blues fans saw it as two points dropped :

" I don’t see it as two points lost, I never believe that, it’s a point gained. Everybody is turning up today thinking it is a foregone conclusion, you just turn up and get a result but it doesn’t happen that way.

" We’ve had to fight and scrap for it. I think probably over the 90 minutes we’ve had the better chances but I suppose a draw is a fair result. The big thing is that we didn’t want to lose at home today and we haven’t done. We go away now and get ourselves ready for the next one but we’re now a point better off so to say it is two points lost is a load of rubbish. "

" I don’t ever believe when you have drawn that you have dropped two points because no game is easy. There isn’t a single game that we’ll play this season that will be easy and I think today we weren’t quite at the races. We didn’t perform as well as everybody would have liked, there wasn’t the spark that everbody thought there might be in the game today.

" We’re delighted that we’ve got a point out of it because we could have lost it. I think towards the end of the game they kept throwing quicker and bigger lads on upfront and looked a threat. However I think over the 90, and especially in the second-half, we’ve had the clearer chances which took a little bit of frantic defending from them which you would expect and it’s a point that we’ve gained and it sets us up now for the next one.

" It was a frustrating afternoon because everybody turns up, we’ve had a magnificent attendance today, expecting it just to happen and it doesn’t. Maybe ourselves we were a little bit guilty of just expecting it to happen.

" We got ourselves ahead through a penalty and I did think it was a penalty. I thought there were a couple of others before that which we could have had but we slotted that away. Then we let them back in the game and it was a silly free-kick to give away in the first place and everybody has a job to do marking men, we have one player who doesn’t mark, the lad has a free header and they score from it. "

" That is something we could have got out of our game. We could have done something about it so we’re frustrated that we’ve conceded the free-kick and frustrated that we haven’t picked up the man to get the header.

" As I say in the second-half we’ve come out and, again without really getting sparks flying we’ve prodded and probed away, we’ve got crosses in and we’ve created a few chances.

" With a little bit of luck we could have scored two through Karl Hawley and Simon Hackney. We’ve had to go and really work for our chances because they’ve come here with a plan to defend and to make it as difficult as they could and that’s what they did. Their keeper has had to make saves and whatever else but as I said earlier that is what you would expect from them.

" We’ve got to get ourselves right now for Boston just two days away. The players are actually just finishing warming down now, they’ll be back in again tomorrow and preparing now for the Boston game. "

" We always knew today was going to be difficult and the next one will be as well so we’ve got to be right for it. Whatever team gets selected they have got to make sure they are right and we’ll go and work to try and get a result. If we can go and get a win from there then four points out of these first two games will be a good return.

" It makes a difference when the ground is open on four sides and they are behind the Waterworks End. I thought our fans were tremendous today, the spells where they were really noisy and got behind the players – that is what we want. It’s just unfortunate that as a group today we didn’t put on a performance to make them even noisier and to send them away with a even better result.

" The only knock I know of at the moment is that Michael Bridges is just icing his knee, he was feeling a bit rough in the game as well. We’ll see how everybody is tomorrow and see how the aches and pains are but I would imagine they’ll all want to be involved for the next one.

" I believe that we are getting very close to the signing of Michael Bridges now. That’s really all I can say, I’m hopeful that it will be sorted but I can’t give you a definite answer at the moment. "
