Southend manager Steve Tilson spoke to BBC Radio Essex after his side's 3-0 win over Carlisle at Roots Hall yesterday afternoon, Tilson happy with a comfortable victory after his side lost by the same scoreline at Swindon on Tuesday night :

" I think that Carlisle came to get a point to be honest in the way that they set up with a 4-5-1. Once we scored though then they have had to come out and open up a little bit, it gave us a bit more space to play. It was comfortable in the end, 3-0, really pleased with that, we needed to bounce back after Tuesday night, which we have now done.

" Especially in the position that Carlisle are in, they are fighting for points, would have loved to have got a point today and gone home. It is always important to score early if they set up like that though, because then they have got to change their formation and it gives you a little bit more space. That is what has happened today and we have gone on and got another two goals, which was good. A clean sheet is fantastic and then obviously the icing on the cake to score three goals.

" Good delivery today, he (Simon Francis) has got good delivery and the keeper (Ben Williams) was caught in two minds for the first goal and hasn't come, and obviously Peter Clarke has capitalised on that and has scored. I can't remember Mildy (Steve Mildenhall) having a save to make to be honest. In the end we have had a few more chances than what we have scored with so it was pretty comfortable in the end.

" He (Damian Scannell) did ever so well for the second goal, it was tough to get him into the game today with the way that they set up but he has been on a good run and it was a fantastic finish. We needed that second goal, that was important and that settled us down, but obviously once we scored the third one, a fantastic strike from Macca (Alan McCormack), the game was over.

" Once we got the third one they had gone and we maybe could have scored four or five, but I will take a 3-0 every day. It was an easy win but you have got to look, that first goal is all-important because it changes the way that they play. It could have been another frustrating afternoon for us if we don't score, and the longer the game goes on the crowd sometimes don't quite understand that you have to be patient against a 4-5-1. We did score early though and that was the difference today.

" We have played a lot of games and the changes were just to freshen it up. I am not going to stand here and say that four changes has got us a 3-0 win because that is not the case. I just felt that we needed to freshen it up, we have had a lot of games, the lads have done ever so well but we just brought in a few new faces. "
