Sean O'Hanlon Talks About The Game

Last updated : 31 January 2013 By Thetashkentterror

Recent United signing Sean O'Hanlon (SO'H) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Andy Wood (AW) following Carlisle's 1-1 League One draw at home to Scunthorpe, O'Hanlon saying that not getting beat today was the main objective:

AW

A man of the match performance, you must be enjoying the start to your Carlisle career?

SO’H

Yeah, it has gone very well so far, obviously winning two weeks ago against Coventry and getting a clean sheet, and it was a tough game today. We didn’t want to get beat, that was the main objective and to get a draw, we are reasonably pleased with that.

AW

It was a very scrappy game, Greg Abbott was alluding to it that it is your kind of game that in getting stuck in?

SO’H

Yeah, as a defender when it does get scrappy that is kind of where you earn your living. You have got to get your head in there and clear balls, and it doesn’t look pretty but our job is just to get that ball away from our goal.

AW

What does it feel like to be playing again and playing regularly?

SO’H

It is good yeah, I have had a few months out and it just feels good to get back playing. Especially the feeling after beating Coventry, that feeling of winning and getting three points, I have waited a long time for that.

AW

It is a very difficult league and next up is of course Tranmere who will be completely different to what you have had to face today?

SO’H

Yeah, I mean I have not played Tranmere for a few years now and I believe they are quite a young team, they are doing very well and it is at their place so it is going to be a tough game.

AW

As well as your defensive performance, twice today the goalkeeper (Sam Slocombe) just denied you getting on the scoresheet, frustrating eh?

SO’H

It is yeah, the first one I didn’t get a great connection but it could have gone in, he has made a good save, and the second one again I didn’t connect with it as well as I would have liked. But, hopefully I can get one against Tranmere.

AW

Karl Hawley was just saying how welcome he felt when he played here at Carlisle United, is that a similar feeling to what you are getting? It is a welcoming club to be at?

SO’H

It is yeah, I have come in and I know a few of the players so they have helped me settle in and the fans have been superb to me since I have been here.

AW

Let’s talk about that goal from young Dave Symington, a few people saying it is the best goal and Greg Abbott included, saying it is the best goal he has seen here, it was an absolute stunner wasn’t it?

SO’H

It was yeah, it is very similar to something (Cristiano) Ronaldo would do. I think a lot of the lads now are watching Ronaldo on the television and watching how he strikes it, and for me it was definitely one from Ronaldo’s book.
