Rory Loy - Radio Cumbria Interview

Rory LoyUnited striker Rory Loy (RL) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) this evening ahead of Carlisle's pre-season friendly at Kendal, Loy hoping to settle in at Brunton Park this year :

RL

The summer was great, everyone likes a break, it was a tough season last season, it was all about getting a new club basically and I am delighted to be at Carlisle, it was a great move for me and I am really looking forward to the new season. Obviously, coming joining so far into last season was a bit tough, but hopefully I can settle in pre-season and give it a good go this year.

JP

The manager (Greg Abbott) has talked about yourself and Paddy Madden sort of coming in and bedding in a little bit towards the end of last season, but this is the time now for you to step up and show that you can lead the line for United, are you ready for that?

RL

Yeah, of course, when I speak to the likes of yourselves and people like that it is a case of 'are you ready to go in and do this and do that?' But, I am just taking it a day at a time and seeing what happens. Obviously, I would love to do that, but things take time and hopefully I can go in straight away and do the business, but if not I am more than confident that at some point during the season I will come into the team and I will do very well.

JP

United have had a number of strikers over the last few years who have talked about the fact that perhaps goals aren't the main part of their game, they are here to help others score etc. Are you a goalscorer if the opportunity arises?

RL

Yeah, I believe I am, if we are creating chances and I am playing up top then I believe I can score goals. Obviously, because I came here and I was playing out on the right for a bit as well, I played a couple of games up top and I managed to score in one of the games I played up top. I only played a handful of games up top but I believe I can play up top and score goals for this club, the amount of chances we created last season and given the opportunity I am sure I can do that. But, it takes time and building up a bit of confidence and getting a string of games together. The fans can be quite expectant in that they expect everything to happen straight away but things take time.

JP

It must give you confidence though seeing how well Danny Graham has done, he came here, couldn't at the time find a club, wasn't scoring regularly, came here and really worked that side of his game out and is now a Premier League player.

RL

I think that kind of puts together half of my last answer in that it is just getting a string of games together, getting the manager to kind of believe in you when things aren't going so well, and when that is the case I am always good for a goal. Whether I am playing well or not so well I am always good for a goal, so hopefully I can prove that to him this season and earn his trust and get in the team.
