Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore spoke to the official Rovers website about his side's 2-0 win over Carlisle at Prenton Park this afternoon, Moore saying that Tranmere deserved the three points :

"I thought we played ever so well in the first half and we bossed it. We were a little bit fortunate with the first goal, but it was a set play, they only sent one man out and they got punished for it. Then it was a great goal from Antony Kay. It was a goal worthy of winning any game.

"It was so important we won the game today and I was pleased with the performance. We had one or two escapes in our goalmouth in the second half but so did they earlier on and I think we just about deserved to win. We set an excellent tempo, worked hard and made things happen for our supporters.

"There was a good crowd and a good atmosphere from the Carlisle supporters to start with. But once we got our noses in front, our crowd got behind us. They threw everything at us in the second half and every time they won a free kick they looked dangerous. But I can't fault the lads, I'm pleased with the result and I think we deserved to win the game.

"We set a great tempo. They want to see a bit of work rate and a bit of graft and that's what we gave them. If we match people for workrate and graft then we've got a decent squad and we're going to win more games than we lose. It was so important that we won the game today.

"I know I've got better players in my dressing room than Carlisle, no disrespect to them. But they've got guts, determination and endeavour. If we match that then we'll win the game. At the end of the day we deserved to nip it.

"It's his (Chris Shuker's) knee. It's badly swollen so we'll just have to wait and see. I thought their lad was very lucky to get away with what he did to Shukes. There wasn't even a yellow card and I'd love to see it again. I thought John Ward reffed it really well from the touchline. I'll be giving John eight out of ten for his refereeing today.

"Antony Kay's goal was worthy of winning any game. He has the ability to do that sort of thing, even though he's a centre-back. It was a difficult decision for me whether to play Antony or Ben Chorley. Today I felt we needed someone to get on the ball and pass it from the back rather than go with an aggressive type of centre-half.

"It worked for us but it's nice to have Ben ready and available again. He's like a bear with a sore backside because he didn't play today. It was also good to have Paul McLaren back. We missed his guile at Luton and his passing is second to none at this level.

"Jennison (Myrie-Williams) did well when he came on. He has the pace to get at defenders and go past them. He did some showboating when he got into the box on one occasion - and I wasn't pleased about that. I want him to put the knife in when he gets the opportunity."
