Tottenham assistant manager Steffen Freund spoke to the media after his side's 3-0 Capital One Cup victory over Carlisle at Brunton Park, Freund saying Spurs are now close to the semi-final already:

"I know eight Premier League sides are already out, and there are only two games and then we are in the semi-final. I can remember 1999 when I won the League Cup - it is special to go to Wembley and I think the players will start to think about that now.

"We brought a few young players in and we believe in them all. Adam Smith was fantastic at right-back and Ryan Mason has been scoring in the development squad, so we knew he can play. Then in the centre of midfield Tom Huddlestone is back after his injury, Michael Dawson is back. There are young players coming through which is nice to see, and it is especially nice to know that we have someone like Andros Townsend behind Gareth Bale who can jump in and create something."

Meanwhile Spurs winger Andros Townsend commented:

"I think first-half we couldn't get any rhythm and we couldn't really keep the ball and then we got the goal from the set-piece and I think everyone went in at half-time and was just trying to rally around and say that we could do this. Luckily my goal early on in the second-half took the pressure off us and after that we started to play and started to play the way we can.

“Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon must be two of the toughest players to try and get out of the team for me now. They put me on the right-hand side to try to cut inside and have shots on my left foot and in the first-half I wasn't really doing that. So, Steffen Freund had a strong word in my ear at half-time and I put one in luckily. I’ve had three substitute appearances and this was my big chance. It was a tough place to go and a good performance from the team. The goal just capped it for me. It was a great night all-round."
