Latics manager Lee Johnson spoke to BBC Radio Manchester after his side's 1-0 win over Carlisle at Brunton Park, Johnson first talking about only Oldham's second victory in their last 13 games away to the Cumbrians:

“It was never going to be easy, any time I have ever played or obviously it is the first time I have brought a team to Carlisle, but I know that they are Oldham’s bogey side and it was always going to be tough in the circumstances, them needing the win and us needing a point to sort of be alright. I thought tactically we did well, the lads have worked on it, it is no fluke now, it is five clean sheets in seven or eight games I think. So, fair play to the defenders and the goalkeeper for that. I felt at times we caused ourselves a few problems by on the break giving the ball away.

“We do work had defensively though, we have had a few hurdles to come across this year and we have pretty much thrown a back four together that needed to get fit. They are good players and they have got better and better as time has gone on and I have been delighted with Adam Lockwood and James Wilson. But, generally it is everybody as a team and a lot of good tactical stuff today.

“I thought Joel Byrom came on and tidied up really well, calm and collected, and I know that when James Dayton gets one v one in a big area of the pitch, particularly on the right side coming in onto his left foot, his feet are so fast he was always going to be dangerous. I was pleased for him because it has been a bit of a topsy-turvy year for him and it was nice for him to get a goal.

“Our approach now for our last two home games is exactly the same, we want to continue the run [unbeaten in eight],of course we want to score goals at home. We probably haven’t scored enough goals, can we play with that bit more freedom? Well, yeah, we can, but at the same time I want to keep the unbeaten run going. Our home fans and our away fans have been fantastic this year and long may it continue.

“Playing Notts County on the last day of the season who have got something to play for will be intense but that is what we want isn’t it. We want intense games, we have done enough now to be safe, we plan for next year as of now and we look forward to hopefully with Notts County bringing a lot of people to come and spur them on, because it is all good for my young squad to play in these pressure games and realise what they can do.

“We know what we are about and we have had so many hurdles this year, it has been unbelievable, it really has. We have been unlucky but for the first time in a long time we have been able to get a settled side out, a group fit and then we have managed to get the same team for the last eight games in a row. It is no fluke that and it is something that we planned to do at the start of the year and it didn’t work out for whatever reason. Hopefully it bodes well for next year but we still need to add quality.”
