Paul TisdaleCity manager Paul Tisdale spoke to BBC Radio Devon after his side's 4-1 defeat against Carlisle at Brunton Park, Tisdale understandably disappointed as the result saw the Grecians relegated from League One :

"Of course it is disappointing, and I am certainly not wanting to repeat this feeling too often. But, we have had a while to prepare for the likelihood of it, I am really pleased with the way we have played over the last month. We have played our way and again today we did that. So, although it is really disappointing I suppose we knew at some point there was a good chance it was going to happen.

"We still kept going to the last, you never know what could happen, and the way we played today we could, it maybe doesn't seem that way but it could easily have been a different story. So, yeah, I am very disappointed but I am pragmatic enough with my appraisal of where we are and how we have played this season and the things that we need to do from here.

"I am a realist and I know it is a starting again process and we have a got buidling process to do over the next couple of months ready for next season. I have to be capable of looking to the future and looking to the next step and not dwell too much on this, albeit it is very, very disappointing.

"It was always going to be a tough season for us in this league, I thought we would do better this year. I would easily look back across the last 12 months and look at the decisions I made and question those decisions, which is the right thing to do. But, we have played a certain way, we would never have got to the point in the league last year that we did without playing that particular way.

"We have carried on this year and we haven't been able to sustain the performances based on some injuries like we have not had in the five or six years since I have been at the club, and circumstances that we have not been able to recover from. It was always going to be a very difficult season in League One for us at any time, whether it is this year or any other year."

"I would have expected and hoped for us to do better and to not be relegated, but when things don't quite go to plan there is that likelihood with us being in this league. It is hard to take but I think we have to be realistic and as much as there are decisions that maybe over the course of the season I could have made differently, we have played our way and we have done our best.

"The spirit in the club and in the playing staff has been excellent from start to finish, and we will endeavour to play our very best next week out of respect for those other clubs who are still involved, chiefly Sheffield United and other clubs competing with Sheffield United to do things right for next week. The way we have played the last month gives me a boost to take into next year, albeit it will be in League Two. But, we have still got another week to play and to do ourselves justice to the league we are in.

"As a player you always have something to play for and as a manager I need to dress up all the positives I can and we need to play our very best. It is Sheffield United's occasion but I am not wishing to spoil it or be party to it. I just want us to do our best and do things the right way and what will be will be for Sheffield United and the other clubs.

"But, it is our last home game of the campaign, it will be at our own stadium, we need to enjoy it and play our way. The way we have played recently at home, we have played with no fear, and as you saw today we have shown no fear whatsoever. How we only managed to score one goal today I do not know and it probably sums up and is symptomatic of a lot of our form this year. But, we will do our best to play in the same manner next week.

"We have to rebuild at the club, we have to do that, economically we have to do that, and your best chance of building and having good value for money and players with a purpose is to have your own young players coming through. I think it would be too much to ask of our six new professionals to come straight into our first team next year and do a service, but over the next two or three years quite a few players will be making their way through the ranks."
