Magpies number two Alex Rae spoke to BBC Radio Nottingham after his side's 1-0 League One defeat at home to Carlisle, Rae suggesting that the game was just a pure scrap :

" Obviously disappointed, we kind of contained them in the second-half, I think they had one or two shots on target as we took the game to them once they scored the goal. We knew it was going to be a scrappy affair today, I went to watch them during the week and they had a fine performance against Huddersfield. It was just a pure scrap, it was similar to the Hartlepool game here but we were disappointed with the run we were on to lose in the manner which we did.

" With all due respect to Carlisle, they had a fine performance during the week and they have got some decent players. But, it was just a pure battle on the pitch and unfortunately it has fallen for them today. If we had scored the chances, like the one from Jamie Gow in the first-half, then it might have been a different affair.

" He should have scored, he has held his hands up, the keeper (Adam Collin) has made a fine save maybe with five minutes to go right down at his far-post. So, all-in-all we are really disappointed, we just need to regroup now and we have got a tough game up at Hartlepool on Tuesday. His chance though, I think he will hold his hands up and he will look at it and it was a very good chance. There weren't a lot of chances in the game and that was the key one for us really.

" In the second-half their goal was a set-play, we emphasised that pre-match, we have watched them a couple of times over the last couple of months and they are very dangerous at set-plays. So, from that point of view we are extremely disappointed, we need to win second balls. We took the game to them after that, we tried to take the game to them but we still didn't have that quality, the final ball just let us down, and I think on another day we might have nicked a point.

" I think if you look at the game overall I think that we lacked a wee bit of quality in certain areas, and we are trying to get some bodies into the club at the moment just to bolster it. We have had about seven or eight players go out and we have only managed to bring a couple in, so we really do need to add to the quality. We are trying to get some bodies in just to give the boys a hand, and we said when we came in that some will stay and some will go, and that is what we are trying to do.

" I think we have seven or eight boys out and we have only managed to bring about two or three in, we brought (Stephen) Darby in again yesterday so that took it to three. So, we have actually managed to get a lot of boys out who were surplus and sent some out on loan. We have actually identified a few and we are actively trying to bring a few in. The saving grace is that we can get loan signings in after the transfer window but we are trying to get some business done next week and then hopefully get one or two in. "
