Ashton Gate
Robins assistant manager Keith Millen spoke to BBC Radio Bristol after his side's 2-0 Carling Cup exit at the hands of Carlisle at Ashton Gate, Millen finally emerging to speak to the press after he and manager Gary Johnson had read the riot act to their players for almost an hour :

" We are very disappointed, it is probably the longest inquest we have had after a game and after a performance like that. We had a good chat in there with the players and we told them what we thought of them and the performance. We apologise to the fans for that performance and the effort and commitment to try to win a football match.

" They didn't say a lot in there, it was myself and Gary (Johnson) the manager really. We told them what we feel and what we expect of them really. Today unfortunately they didn't produce, you can have bad days when you don't pass the ball well and things don't fall for you and you have bad luck. When the effort and commitment is not there to win a game though then that is when we are most disappointed.

" I can't think of a worse performance than that off the top of my head at the moment that has been worse than that. Probably on the back of the Cardiff performance makes it worse that we were disappointed at Cardiff and we have picked a team today to respond after that game, and they didn't give us what we wanted. So we have got some tough decisions to make for Saturday's game against Middlesbrough.

" Carlisle were good, I thought that in the first-half we had a lot of possession but never really looked like scoring. They looked dangerous on the break but we told the players before the game that if they are not ready for it and they are not 100% committed to winning the game then it is a complete leveller. Carlisle have got some decent players and on the night they wanted to win it more than we did. "

" They were disappointing goals to concede, we left ourselves a little bit exposed at the back trying to win the game, but you would expect our players to be good enough to deal with their front men in one v one situations but they weren't. Maybe sometimes they get things too easy - they have to earn their living, their money and contracts. Unfortunately tonight they didn't do that.

" I apologise to the fans because there are not many times that we have performed like that and they have got every right to boo us off today. They've paid their money and turned up in numbers and they've been let down. So we have got to work now very hard on getting a response for Saturday's game.

" We started the season well, before Cardiff everyone was saying how well we were doing, how well we were playing and what a good chance we have got. These two defeats have obviously have made us have a bit of a rethink and maybe refocus a little bit. I don't know whether the players thought that they had cracked it but they are certainly not working hard enough to represent this football club at the moment.

" We will have to see tomorrow about who is available for Saturday. There are a few that are over their illnesses, whether they are strong enough to play on Saturday we will see tomorrow. We had a couple of little knocks as well so we didn't start players today, so it would be nice to be able to pick from a full strength squad but we won't know until tomorrow. "
