Exeter manager Paul Tisdale spoke to BBC Radio Devon after his side's 1-0 backs to the wall win at Brunton Park, Tisdale extremely happy with the way that his players defended so strongly in the game :

" Very, very pleased indeed, I think that when you look at the last four games we have had, I think that we have deserved at least one win out of the four and it happened to be today. We put a lot of effort in and we just wanted our first league win of the season, not to say that Carlisle didn't want to win either. I think that we deserved that over the course of the four games though and to get a clean sheet makes it somewhat sweeter. Because we have not yet had a clean sheet until today and we are just very, very pleased.

" He (Troy Archibald-Henville) was very good on the cover in the first-half, we had a couple of crosses to defend into the near-post and he did extremely well behind Matt Taylor. Then in the second-half he and Matt were equally as good defending the six-yard box. Which when you come away from home and you decide that you are going to soak up pressure, which we did today, then your centre-halves and your goalkeeper have to be dominant.

" I would like to single out those two centre-halves because they earned more than their fair share of first headers in the six-yard box. Also Steve Tully actually at the back-post, he defended the back-post so well on the crosses. It was a big team effort though, we decided that with it being such a big pitch here that we were going to sit a bit deep and a bit narrow and take pressure and be happy to defend.

" Again that was our main, I guess determination, coming into the game that we would be happy not to have the ball today. When you have got a team like we have that like to play football then that is quite a commitment and we were happy not to have the ball, we were happy to defend. We just knew that we needed one or two opportunities to catch them on the break with our passing and that is how we got in I suppose, short passing and found the space.

" We had to soak up a lot of pressure though and all that counts for nothing if your defenders don't do what they did today, which is clear those dangerous crosses. I thought that the crosses from Carlisle were excellent, some of the best crossing I have seen in a long time and it meant that we really had to cope well with the ball in our box. Delighted for our players though, I am chuffed for our supporters that have come a long, long way, left at 6am or 5am this morning to be here, so I am delighted for them and I hope that they enjoyed it. "

" He (Marcus Stewart) is very pleased as you can imagine, it was his 250th career goal and it has been quite an ambition of his I suppose to get to that point. It was a very coolly taken penalty, it really was, and it was a penalty of course. He finished off the move that won the penalty so I am delighted for Marcus, and I am delighted for all them, including myself.

" Steve Tully playing well over the last three games is reflective of a player, who albeit disappointed not to play the first game has responded in the correct manner. His training has been impeccable, actually he has possibly been our best trainer, during that fortnight when he wasn't in the side he was possibly our best trainer.

" Which is a good example for anybody that of course you never know when your chance is going to come and it could have been 22 games or two games, but it happened to be two games. He started the game well today, he defended the back-post well in the second-half and he was a very, very prominent team player today.

" I have not looked at it as a hectic start to the season, two games or one game a week, we will play them, it doesn't really matter. I think that in the first four games we have had a real tough start and I think that we are value for our five points, I really do. Unfortunately I haven't made a decision on the two trialists in that time (Daniel Connor and Wayne Gray) but I will do in the next coming days, but not yet.

" He (Adam Stansfield) has had two days training, albeit half days training where he has not been able to do everything. You have to consider that he hasn't played a game now since Easter time last year, so that is a long time. So when he is fit we have got to be very careful that we don't push him into starting before he has found his rhythm and his body is ready for it. So he is still going to be a week or two away I think from featuring off the bench even. "
