Saltergate
Spireites assistant manager Tommy Wright spoke to his club's official website and BBC Radio Derbyshire after Carlisle won 3-1 at Saltergate in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, Wright very disappointed with Chesterfield's defending in the tie :

" Obviously it's disappointing to go out of two cup competitions in the space of four or five days. Looking at the game at 1-0, I thought we were in control and we looked like we were going to increase the lead but at this moment in time we are giving very bad goals away. If they come against the run of play or when they have got the play you have still got to defend your box and we never did that.

" It's people not doing their jobs, people switching off, people not being responsible or brave mentally or physically and we have fallen down in that department. When balls go into your box you have got to stand up and be counted and mark your men, you have got to go and attack the ball and you have got to stand up, and we have not been doing that, it is simple as that.

" We made changes, Saturday wasn't good enough as well but I thought we played a lot better tonight than we did on Saturday. I thought at 1-0 we looked like increasing the lead, we were passing the ball and we had one or two efforts, we hit the post and their keeper (Adam Collin) made a couple of good saves. So there were positives to take out of it but at any level of football, if you don't defend your box then you are going to struggle.

" We had them on the rack at times, we played some lovely stuff, we moved the ball well, we moved it with a good tempo. We made some runs off the ball and with the ball and some of it was very positive to look at. But you are not going to win football games at any level if you cannot defend crosses and you don't deal with crosses, it is as simple as that.

" We played better in the second half and we moved the ball well, dominated midfield and created chances but if you allow their smallest player (Matty Robson) to score with a header at the back stick you won't win games. There might have been a push on (Phil) Picken but the referee didn't give it so there wasn't a push. It was a loopy cross and we should have dealt with it better. The first goal for them was disappointing because at that stage it looked like there was only going to be one winner and that was us. "

" We have conceded six goals in two home games in cup competitions where obviously we are still in a good position in the league and we have got to stay together and we have got to improve. But at the end of the day if players don't take in what you are telling them, or they are not capable of doing that job, then we will have to change them.

" I am pretty sure Gregor Robertson has broken his leg, it looks pretty bad. He has gone to hospital and obviously it is a disappointment because he has done well since John (Sheridan) and myself and Mark (Allott) have been at the club. We think he is a good footballer but it is not looking too good at this moment in time.

" I don't think there was any animosity in the tackle (from Tom Taiwo), they just came together and banged legs. These things happen in football and we will give Gregor all the help and support that he needs to get him back on the football field.

" We have been a bit unfortunate, we have had two bad injuries in the space of two weeks, Jamie Lowry's cruciate and Gregor with his leg, so we are having a bit of bad luck. But football does that, you have got to dig in, you have got to stick together and you have got to pull through the bad times.

" We are always looking for loan players, we do the mileage, we go to games. We have brought I think some decent players in, Mark Little, Donal McDermott, Dave Perkins, they have all done well. So we will be looking to increase the squad, obviously these injuries might push us in another direction. Nothing is in the pipeline at the moment, obviously we were concentrating on tonight's game but maybe in the next couple of days we might make a few phone calls and try to get people in.

" The players shouldn't need lifting, they are going to Rochdale, Rochdale who are second and we are sixth and the players should be looking forward to Saturday and proving to the supporters that they are back on it. A win on Saturday and we will probably be in the top three. So if they need lifting they shouldn't be at Chesterfield and they shouldn't be playing football. "
