City manager Bobby Williamson spoke to the Chester Evening Leader about his side's exit from the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Brunton Park last night, Williamson bemoaning a busy spell of fixtures for the Deva Stadium outfit :

"The team I put out on the park should have been good enough to have won the game at Carlisle. I thought Paul McManus and Glenn Rule both did well and it was good to see them both on the park.

"I enjoyed the game at Carlisle, but I was obviously disappointed in the manner we conceded the goals. I felt they were all defendable, some of our players were at fault and we handed Carlisle their goals on a plate really.

"But credit to Carlisle because they were obviously a better team on the night after winning 4-2, so we wish them all the best in the next round. For us it's work as usual until we get the Hereford United home game out of the way on Friday night.

"The people who organise these tournaments and fixtures might need to look at themselves. We've been asked to fulfil these fixtures and we're prepared to do that, but I don't think it's fair to be asked to play three games in six days.

"Why we had to play on Sunday (at home to Shrewsbury) I don't know, and why we have to play on Friday (at home to Hereford) I don't know. If we've got to play these games then I'd like to think we can do them justice, but we need decent breaks in between games.

"We've got a lot of games to play in a short space of time, but why we have to play these games at this time of year I think is a nonsense. I'd like to think we can do all our games justice, but I don't think we can do that because I don't think we can fire on all cylinders for the league and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy competition, and that's disappointing."
