United stand-in captain Frank Simek (FS) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) after Carlisle's 3-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area Final second leg defeat away to Huddersfield that saw the Blues win the tie 4-3 on aggregate, Simek saying that United are through to Wembley and that is all that matters :

JP

What was that like to be involved in?

FS

What a game that was, we made it interesting for you guys anyway but we are through and that is the only thing that matters. It was tough, it was always going to be tough, 4-0 was a funny one because they were always going to come at us and we had to defend well. We are through and that is the only thing that matters.

JP

What does it feel like to be at Wembley as a player, maybe even as the captain on the day, we will have to see on that one?

FS

Yeah, it is going to be an unbelievable day out, obviously quite a few of the lads were there last year, and it wasn't such a good day out. Hopefully, we can maybe put that one right.

JP

You have to consider these matches as 180 minutes long and not just the 90, I know people will look and see 3-0 in the morning, but it is more than that. As soon as Huddersfield get a goal you are clinging on in there aren't you?

FS

Oh yeah, absolutely, it is nothing like a league game, it is a two-legged game and we were up for it. It was never going to be as straightforward as a league game but credit to the lads. We dug in and got the job done, it wasn't easy, it wasn't pretty, but we are through.

JP

What will it feel like as well to take your family to the home of football like that and be out there performing as a player?

FS

Yeah, it is going to be cool, it is going to be really cool. I have got a lot of pepole from America coming over for the game as well, so I will have a big American fanbase there, but it is going to be an unbelievable day out that is for sure.

JP

A lot of people were pinning their hopes on you making it through then by the sounds of it?

FS

Well, yeah, they were hoping, obviously they didn't book their flight just yet but they are coming over yeah.

JP

In terms of the fans, I know a lot of disappointed people with the last couple of matches in the league. Is this for them getting them through to Wembley? Is this your way of the players saying, look we appreciate your support?

FS

Yeah, I thought they were brilliant tonight, that was probably one of the best supported games that we have been at this season away I think. They were brilliant, they were loud throughout the whole game, even at 3-0 they were probably on the edge of their seats but they were fantastic from the warm-up to the final whistle, they really helped us out I think.

JP

What do you do next then? You have got Southampton at the weekend, can you try to use the euphoria of getting through this one to galvanise the team and try to get back to that league form we were seeing a couple of weeks ago?

FS

Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, and it is something we are going to have to do as well. Because, with the players we have and the spirit we have in the camp we are not where we want to be in the league, we are not anywhere close.

Hopefully, on Saturday it is going to be a tough game down at Southampton, we beat them obviously at our place earlier in the season, it was a tough game, but hopefully we can go there and do the double over them.

JP

A bit of a coincidence about it of course, last time Carlisle got to the Johnstone's Paint Final it was Southampton who crushed their hopes, this weekend in the league it would be nice to just get a little back on them wouldn't it?

FS

Yeah, exactly you know, obviously it was a bit of a bad day out last year at Wembley. But, we will just go there and hopefully do a job on Saturday and start climbinng this league again.

JP

That is the most important thing now isn't it? We don't want to get to a final, even do well in that final but not maintain our status in League One?

FS

Yeah, exactly, obviously the ticket to Wembley is a great accomplishment, two years on the bounce for Carlisle is an unbelievable accomplishment, not many clubs go to Wembley two years on the bounce. But, you know, we will fully concentrate on the league now and hopefully we can start climbing it.

JP

And we really need to don't we? Because, one defeat now, potentially let's say this weekend and you could be far too close to those bottom few in this division?

FS

Yeah, and that is obviously not where we want to be, we have got to use this result, obviously we got beat 3-0 but the lads in there are buzzing. We are going to Wembley and hopefully we can use that euphoria and use that optimism to help us in the league.
