United centre-half Peter Murphy spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey after Carlisle's 3-0 home victory over Huddersfield, Murphy hoping that the Blues can take the good performance on into the Oldham game on Sunday :

" It was a good day today, I hope that it has given the fans something to cheer about on a Bank Holiday, like it is today on Boxing Day. We have got a tough game coming now against Oldham so we will be looking forward to trying to do that same performance. That is what it is all about really, the performance and the effort, we got that right today and we looked very well, especially with the two strikers scoring two very good goals today.

" I think that at the start of the game we started very brightly. We have not really been doing that very often so it was good to get that going today. I think that it took them a bit by surprise. We got the early goal and we carried on from there, but the passing and the link-up play, if you look at the second goal, if people see it on the television, Danny Graham and Michael Bridges working together was very well done. Then Michael Bridges gets his goal and even the third goal, the little (Graham) Kavanagh around the corner, a little lay-off to him and then he has finished it off very well.

" So the things that we have been working on on the training pitch, they are coming together now and everybody is working hard to try to get the results I think. So we have just had a bit of a bad run and it is turning around, everybody's mental attitude with that. So we are just getting the confidence going again and I am sure that we will be fine, we will be OK and hopefully this is the start of it.

" You can't really get caught up with things, I think that even when you are in the play-offs, when we were in the play-off places you can't get caught up in the thing. Because you can think that we will just get three points the next day, but it doesn't happen like that. So you just have to concentrate, it is like clichés all the time, you have got to concentrate on the next game.

" We are in a position now where we have got to fight for every game and every point, and hopefully climb up the table. If we can do that then we might get back up towards where we want to be. It is going to be a long haul and a long stretch of a season now though. We have made it hard work for ourselves but we have done that before, it is Carlisle United through and through, every year is the same, there is always something going on. "

" I think that they (Oldham) have done very well this year. Our away form hasn't been that good so we are just trying to build on this performance today. It is going to be a totally different game on Sunday when we go there though. I think that the Huddersfield game today, with one upfront, I don't think that Oldham are going to do that. It is going to be a different test for us but it is up to us to match them, realise which way they are playing and for us to get the upper hand.

" We need to try to get our crosses in, get our shots in and get our two strikers going again. Because we have given them the service today which we didn't do at Northampton and they looked like totally different players today. The two strikers getting the two goals, hopefully that is great confidence for them, all strikers love scoring goals and hopefully they will do the same on Sunday.

" It wasn't just even into the box, just even our build-up play today, it gives us a chance as a defence to get higher up the field, which then gives us a chance to attack a little bit more. They are all little things in games that people maybe don't really look at and see. We are analysing it in the changing-rooms though and saying that our service has to be better.

" It is not the forwards' fault, people will say that the forwards are not playing well but they have to get the service, and they thrive on the service. They got it today, it looked totally better, they looked like better players obviously. It is looking good at the minute but we have to just put that into Sunday as well.

" We will see what everybody is like tomorrow (Saturday). I think that we are travelling down to Leeds to train tomorrow, in Guiseley. I think that it is just because the Gaffer (Greg Abbott) lives Leeds way so we are picking him up on the way or something, I think that it is one of the perks of the job probably.

" I think that he has got a couple of connections down at Guiseley, we are training there and then going to the hotel. So we will get our rest in and we will be raring to go on Sunday again. The supporters have been great, I just want to wish them if they are listening, Happy Christmas, the rest of it, and a good New Year. "
