Pirates boss Paul Trollope spoke to the official Bristol Rovers website after his side's 3-0 win at the Memorial Stadium against Carlisle this afternoon, Trollope lauding the performance of 21-year old Gas striker Andy Williams :

"It wasn't a major upturn in form, it was the fact we did a lot better at both ends of the pitch than we have done of late. It's a boost for our points total and for our goals total, and it shows what we can do against a side that has been up there all season.

"We've never lost belief or spirit in the camp over what we're capable of, and with players coming back from injury and suspension as well as a new face or two, we're looking to have a strong second half to the season. We go to Southend now looking to start 2008 with a bang, and hopefully with a win. The points return this week has been ok, but it could have been better.

"Our away performances this season have been good, but it's about time we got back to winning ways on the road. We were disappointed to lose at Leeds and Swindon because we felt we didn't deserve to, and the aim on Tuesday is to put that right against Southend.

"Andy (Williams's) form is getting better, and it was a magical finish for the third goal. We've got full belief in him and what he's capable of, he's missed a few chances but he's a young lad and he has a lot of attributes that we know can hurt teams.

"His pace and his touch are exceptional, and hopefully this can be the start of something for him now. He's looked very lively over the games leading up to today, and the challenge for him now is to see that form continue.

"We still need to add to the squad, it was a good result today but we're not getting carried away and thinking that after one win that everything is OK. In general there has still been a lack of goals in too many of our games, and we need to address that for the rest of the season.

"We haven't been playing badly, but the ball hasn't been going in for us because we have lacked that bit of expertise in the final third. The players reacted well to the disappointment of only drawing against Luton and worked very hard in training. We can now go into the New Year on a high note and look for at least mid-table security.

"We've produced that level of play on quite a few occasions this season, but the difference this time was that we put the chances away and defended very well. We did better at both ends of the pitch and our set-piece deliveries were very good."
