Blues midfielder Paul Thirlwell
United skipper Paul Thirlwell spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey after Carlisle's 2-1 defeat at home to Tranmere, Thirlwell suggesting that the players are the only people who can put things right :

" There were no positives at all, other than obviously the goal in the last minute which is too little, too late. We never got started to be honest, when the goal happened, 30 seconds, a minute, whatever it was. The gaffer (John Ward) and Greg (Abbott) preached to us all week about starting well, we have had a good week in training and then we turn up and that happens. It just seemed to zap us of any confidence and any kind of drive to push on.

" I think that the lads will always go out and give 100%, I don't think that we can ever be criticised for that. Today though it just wasn't good enough, they were just sharper all over the pitch than we were. We don't want to put on a performance like that whether it is at home or away. So we are all disappointed, the manager is disappointed, the players are disappointed, the fans are disappointed and we haven't given them anything to cheer about today.

" I'm not sure which game I will miss, I think that it is MK Dons. Looking at Rochdale, we can't go home feeling sorry for ourselves, we haven't produced today and we have to go home and have a look ourselves. Come back in on Monday with smiles on our faces and looking to put it right at Rochdale, that is all that we can do, the players are the only people that can put it right. "
