United central midfielder and goalscorer Paul Murray spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey yesterday evening as he gave his thoughts on the Doncaster game and what the team have all been working hard together for during pre-season training :

" I think you saw what it was like when I scored, I just had so much adrenaline and everything just went through my mind. You probably saw with the celebration that I didn't slide very far, it was just an unbelievable feeling. It was fantastic, I don't know how many minutes were on the board but at the end of the day that's my job, get in the box and get some goals. I've got a target of goals so it was just great to get on the end of it and get three points.

" I just actually thought that there was no-one in at the back stick so I thought that I've got to get in here. A lot of the lads said I should have headed it but I just waited for it on the volley and obviously it was nice to see it hit the back of the net. We've got to remember that this is the first game in this league for a long while, to get three points on the board against a team who are probably 5/1 favourites to go up, they've spent a lot of money on wages and bit and bobs, then it fills us with great confidence.

" We're going to have to grind out results like that, as I said, we can't pass the ball around all the time, we've got to get growing in confidence and play better in other games. It's all about those three points, we've been working all pre-season, all the running, all the games in Ibiza and various places, this is what it's all for, the first game of the season, just growing in confidence from there on.

" There is an awful long way to go but it's a good benchmark for us, to win against one of the favourites to go up – what more can you ask for really? The new gaffers have stamped their authority on the side, that's the minimum requirement in our team, you've got to work hard. As I said, once it fills us with a bit more confidence and we get playing, and we start passing the ball around like we can, then we'll start playing football. Doing the nasty bit, the hard work and the grafting, but also being very good with the ball. "
