MARTIN LING, who was speaking exclusively to Orient's official website www.leytonorient.com, thinks the O's were the better side against United and that his team still have a good shot at automatic promotion. Ling also bemoaned the fact that Orient were denied a clear penalty in the first-half, but he thought United's "goal" should have stood as well :

"It was an end-to-end game, they were a threat on the counter but we controlled the game. Their reaction at the end said it all, they know we were the better side but the killer goal didn't come.

"We play better at a tempo, but I'd like the opposition to fetch that amount of crowd all the time, because we're louder when our fans try and out shout theirs!

"Matt Lockwood was outstanding, as were the centre-halves - the back four looked solid, and we had plenty of legs in midfield, Craig Easton was a welcome return for us.

"Our supporters know we were the better side and that we gave it everything - it never dropped to a striker in the box and that might have made it a different situation.

"We started slow and they looked like they'd control the game - but Paul (Connor) and Gary (Alexander) linked up well and Paul had a good hour for us, but he's lacking a little bit of match fitness because he hasn't been involved much at Swansea lately."

Talking about the penalty claim after 18 minutes, Ling said :

"The first look seemed like he caught it, I've not seen it on the video - but I always balance it out and there didn't look like a lot wrong with their disallowed goal.

"I'm looking up, not down - the play-offs are a safety net but this was our biggest question today and we came up with a positive answer. There are 15 games left, I think we need 29 more points to go up - nearly two points per game.

"We missed Shane (Tudor) when he went off, he was giving (Zigor) Aranalde all kinds of trouble. He's injured his ankle, and we'll know more on Monday once the swelling has gone down but he may be out for a few weeks. Shane is our ball carrier so it's frustrating but it might be a case of having his groin done now and getting him back fully fit for the last ten games or so."
