Blues manager Neil McDonald
United boss Neil McDonald spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Saturday evening as he gave his opinion on the excellent 1-0 win at Rotherham. McDonald talking about the hard work that his players are putting in at the moment :

" I think the performance was quite poor to be fair, we started off in the warm-up not very well, I wasn't very pleased and I had a little bit of a go at them just before the start of the game. They've shown tremendous character again though, I thought it was comfortable even though we didn't play very well. All we had to do was step it up and hopefully one chance would come along, and we've put it in the back of the net. It puts pressure on everybody which is great.

" He (Keiren Westwood) is in top form and the back four are working extremely hard as well, that includes the four in front and the two centre-forwards as well. We're defending with our lives and if we score a goal we've got something to hang on to which is great, and we seem as though we are very, very difficult to score against at the moment which is excellent. It seems as though it is the perfect time to be like that.

" He (Peter Murphy) took a knock but he hasn't been feeling too well over the last two or three days anyway. He was a little bit sick in the changing rooms at half-time so we decided to change it. We've got players ready and raring to go to come in to fill their place and take up the mantle if somebody drops off. We certainly looked just as strong defensively in the second-half as we had done in the first-half which is great.

" It's been a big ask of the players over the last three or four games, emotionally and physically, and they have come up trumps all the time. They just stepped below the line performance-wise today but they certainly never gave up. They are certainly giving it their best shot which is excellent, and we need that little bit of luck which we got for the goal.

" We seem to be in this situation where we defend for our lives in front of them (Carlisle fans) and score when we are attacking them which is excellent. It's a fantastic day to come and get a result, the other results have gone for us as well I believe so we can only hope for what happens over the next three games. It's exciting for everybody and I'm sure there will be two huge crowds coming up but especially a huge crowd against Bristol City.

" Home form is good, the atmosphere has been excellent and the crowds have been good as well so I can't see that changing. We've just got to try to keep winning our games though and hopefully, as they have today, other teams slip up.

" It is difficult coming off three games over the Easter period, and then playing in heat. We're trying to get the balance between rest and work but sometimes the heat does take it out of you. Maybe we were a little bit pent-up and nervous as well as the adrenaline. It's fantastic to win another game 1-0. I'm very proud of the players, very proud indeed, the harder you work the luckier you get I suppose. They are certainly working very, very hard. "
