Blues manager Neil McDonald
United boss Neil McDonald spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey this evening as he gave his opinion on Carlisle's first away win of the season - a 1-0 victory at Bournemouth, McDonald talking about the hard work put in by the whole team today :

" Defensively we were very, very sound, the only disappointing thing is that we never really passed the ball and we never got into our attacking play. We've done that plenty of times this season and come away with nothing though, before the game I asked the players to put in a better performance than they did last week at Swindon and I certainly got that. I asked them not to lose as well and they have come up trumps by winning their first away game, it feels very, very good.

" Everybody was committed, we do work very, very hard on the training ground to try and put things right and to make sure that we are all prepared. I think that showed today on the defensive side of our game. The system today needs everybody to be on the ball, switched on and concentrated because if one switches off there becomes a hole to exploit. I don't think they had that many holes to exploit today, they had a couple of chances towards the end but in the first-half I thought we were quite comfortable.

" In the second-half towards the end you get a little bit edgy and a little bit nervous but I was so sure that we were going to keep a clean sheet and we were going to win the game. They (Kevin Gray and Peter Murphy) were outstanding today and they have been with the games that we have played, those two have been outstanding. Their contribution to the team was fantastic today but I think they were well supported by everybody else.

" He (Danny Livesey) didn't look out of place at all, I know that he can play at right-back, because he did that at Bolton when I was there. At the start of the week I didn't have any qualms about throwing him in there and he's defended really, really well, as the whole team has. All you ask on the players that come in is to try and do their best and to try and keep their place, what I've done so far is that if you do reasonably well on a consistent level then you will keep your place.

" Getting the first win was vitally important because I certainly don't like coming up and speaking to you after the game when we haven't won. That was my touch at the end of the game when the players had their huddle – to go and say thank you very much to the fans because they have supported us away from home. They have travelled right, left and centre and it's really good that they are going home with a huge, big smile on their face for the first time this season.

" The supporters have been second to none so far, even at home, but especially away from home, they can see what we are trying to do and it's been frustrating and disappointing for them that they haven't seen their team win. Hopefully that is the first of many, it's a great journey back now but it's always good when you win. "
