United boss Neil McDonald spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Saturday evening as he gave his opinion on the 5-1 drubbing at Crewe. McDonald talking about finishing being the difference between the two sides and the need to bounce back against Millwall :

" If you stick the ball in the back of the net then you win games, everytime they seemed to come forward in the second-half they hit the target and it's hit the back of the net. That's what we've been trying to do away from home and we haven't done it, it's a lesson to us on what happens if you do. They caused us problems, they are at home, they've got a good home record and we knew it was going to be difficult, but, as I say, they've taken their chances.

" It was poor defending on our part even for the first two goals in the first-half, and then to concede a third one really killed the game off and you start chasing it I suppose. They then have a little bit more space and they have obviously been a lot more clinical than we have been over the last few days to score five at home. I think to be fair, on reflection, they have probably thoroughly deserved their 5-1 win.

" We've lost three points and that's it whether we get beat 1-0 or 5-1, I think that is the philosophy and the way I am trying to look at it, we've been soundly beaten today so we take it on the chin and say well done to Crewe. We were 1-0 up, we should have been 2-0 up, Karl Hawley was through and we've had one cleared off the line, we've hit the crossbar and Derek Holmes should have scored at the far-post so we've created enough chances ourselves. We weren't as clinical as Crewe were today though.

" You have to take it on the chin, when you look through the season we are probably due another one or two of them, it's how we bounce back from it and how we deal with it though. We've tried to be constructive after the game on the way we have explained everything and how everything has gone and the players have taken it on board. They are feeling a little bit sorry for themselves which you are supposed to be when you get beat 5-1, at the same time though we'll still be solid and we'll come in on Monday with a huge smile on our faces ready for Millwall.

" Kevin Gray was just rested, Karl took a bang on his ribs last week, they were still a little bit sore and then he has just taken a whack in the same place so we just took him off as he was struggling to run around a bit. Everyone else is fine though, just dented pride with conceding five goals.

" We have to bounce back next week, at the same time though, after 12 games if you'd said we were going to be in the position we are in you'd have taken it. It's a huge learning curve for us, I think I'm right in saying that they got relegated last year, they are from the Championship and let's not forget where we've come from. It's a harsh lesson though and a lesson that I'm sure we'll learn from. We're still on the lookout for loan players, it's not easy, which I've found, but we'll keep on trying and that's all I can do. "
