Blues manager Neil McDonald
United boss Neil McDonald spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Friday evening as he talked about how pre-season preparations are going for the Blues, McDonald also chatting about the friendly game at home to Blackpool tomorrow :

" We're still in discussions with him (Rogvi Jacobsen), we were quite impressed with what we saw in training and the 45 minutes against Middlesbrough. So we're in discussions with him on what the deal is going to be, can he come back, would we able to buy him and how much is he going to cost, we're in discussions on that at the moment. I'm not quite sure how it is going because we've left it to John (Nixon) and Fred (Story) to make contact, they have and we are just waiting back to see where the land lies.

" We're looking for quality players, yes he's an international for the Faroe Islands but an international is an international. You always miss your good players don't you if they are away but it would be nice to secure another international at the football club because we already have one. We don't know whether or not he is going to sign, we don't know where the land lies really with his club that he is playing for.

" We'll saw how that develops, we've still got other irons in the fire with other players, whichever one we can get will be good for the football club and it will be good for the person that is coming to the football club. We're still in discussions about defenders, we've got a game tomorrow against Blackpool and all our defenders are fit which is excellent. We'll keep on the phone, keep on trying to make contact and get further forward with new recruits.

" He (Marc Bridge-Wilkinson) has had a scan today just to see what the extent on his knee was, we are still waiting for the results on that. We're hoping that he should be able to start training on Monday though and we'll just take it from there, So it's just really waiting for the feedback from the scan results. We're going to try to get him (Martin Brittain) on the pitch tomorrow. He's had a good week of training and he knows everybody now which is great. If we get a chance to put him on then we'll put him on tomorrow. "

" Blackpool is a pre-season game, the most important game is the Walsall game coming up. That's what we've always worked for from the start of pre-season from the 2nd of July knowing that we were playing Walsall away for the first game of the season. We've tried to play to a system in pre-season games and I'm sure we'll stick to that, who the personnel will be will remain a secret until we name the teamsheet at 2pm on the Saturday.

" I think what we asked the Middlesbrough staff about was that they have a lot of young players that we saw on the night. They've got a great reputation of bringing the young kids through, they just need first-team football. It was good that we played Newcastle and Middlesbrough over the pre-season because they have seen what we can do.

" They've seen the surroundings, the pitch, the way we have tried to play football. I think that can only benefit the young kids coming to us if we do need them in whatever position to play some first-team football to get them ready for the big step which is the Premiership.

" I think it's great to have a relationship with all the clubs, not just the big ones, but even the ones in your league and the ones just above and below. We're trying to forge partnerships with everybody. Not mentioning any names but we were asked if we were interested in a player from Newcastle. We were interested in the player last season but we've strengthened in certain areas this season and I didn't see that it was right for the football club at this time, but we certainly haven't closed the door on that one.

" We worked very, very hard on trying to prevent injuries and sometimes you can't help the ones where they maybe jar their knee or it's a tackle or contact injury. We've very, very pleased though with everybody's fitness. I'm very, very pleased with the way the games have gone, we've still got a lot to work on and a lot to do but we are getting closer as the weeks go by. We need to try to finish the pre-season games off with a good performance and then it's a fantastic build-up for the first game of the season against Walsall. "
