Southend manager Steve Tilson
Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson talked to BBC Radio Essex about his team's 1-0 defeat at home to Carlisle on Saturday, Tilson talking about the lack of chances the Cumbrians created in the game :

" It's obviously disappointing but they are a side in good form at the moment. They made it difficult for us but I felt that we had enough chances to get something out of the game but it wasn't quite to be today. In the first-half it is probably the best we have played all season, there wasn't a clear-cut chance but there were certainly some good half-chances that maybe we could have done better with.

" That wasn't to be though, the keeper made a couple of good saves in the first-half and even in the second-half we've had some half-chances. Fair play to Carlisle though, they've taken their one of probably only two or three chances, a bit like the Tranmere game, and have come away with the points.

" The first-half performance I can't fault the lads, I thought that we were tremendous in the first-half, the best we have played all season. In the second-half we have had some half-chances and to come away losing the game is disappointing.

" If someone had said to me that you'll end up in the top six and in the play-offs at the start of the season then I'd certainly have taken that. So we're in that at the moment and we've got to make sure that we stay there.

" I think that he (referee Dean Whitestone) wanted to play in today's game, when you speak to a player you have a chat and then get away but he tended to chat and chat and chat so that was disappointing. I don't know if Norwich have been in touch with Southend about me.

" He (Martin Jol) has done a fantastic job at Tottenham you know and I think the way it went about was not the best. He's had two fantastic seasons there but chairmen seem to panic these days and do things a bit too quickly.

" I thought that Alan McCormack and Nicky Bailey were absolutely fantastic in midfield today, they dictated it in there. It's tough, like I say, I'm disappointed today and hopefully we can bounce back next week. "
