United's star striker Michael Bridges spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Paul Newton and Derek Lacey earlier this evening as he gave his thoughts on manager Paul Simpson's departure to Preston. Bridges commenting on the upheaval it causes as far some of the players' contracts are concerned :

" I've only just found myself about two hours ago and I'm absolutely devastated. I've only been there for the last nine months and it's been absolutely fantastic working under Paul Simpson and Dennis Booth. Whether or not he takes Dennis with him, we'll just have to wait and see, but I think that is more than likely, so it just shatters the backbone of what they have built in the last three years.

" We've got to get it going again for the start of the season, the lads have had back-to-back promotions. I can't understand it myself, like I say, I've only just found out recently, and I've spoken to Chris Lumsdon as well, and we're both absolutely devastated. There are a lot of the lads who have got a year left on their contracts, and were talking about renegotiations and things like that, and this puts a spanner in the works for everybody.

" I see it as a backward step for Carlisle but a forward step for Paul Simpson and it's upsetting. Personally if Simmo had been here it would definitely have been a yes to extending my contract, but at the moment you've got to wait and see who comes in. Because I've had a few instances in the past where you don't get along with managers and I had a fantastic bond with Simmo and Dennis and they were great to work for, so at the moment I'm just sitting tight on my year.

" It's fantastic for Simmo, back-to-back promotions and obviously Preston have been keeping an eye on him and they have taken him there, which is all credit to himself. We've got to look at Carlisle though and see where we pick the pieces up because somebody will come in, think about whether Dennis stays or not and obviously you've got all the backroom staff. It was such a family orientated club so Fred (Story) is going to have look at it very, very wisely and see who he brings in.

" Me and Kevin Gray should have the job, no, only joking. Management isn't something I'm looking to get into at this moment in time, in a few years time obviously I'll be looking at that, but not at this moment in time. I think there are a lot more people out there, I haven't got a clue who I'd want in, like I say, I am just taking the news in and we'll have to wait and see who is appointed or who is in the running for it, because I'm sure it's going to be available and there are going to be a lot of people wanting it. There are a few people I wouldn't want to get it, but I'm keeping my cards close to my chest."
