Carlisle's diminutive winger Brendan McGill spoke exclusively to BBC Radio Cumbria on Saturday evening as he talked about the 4-0 victory against the Shakers, the way the team is playing and how much things have turned round in the last two years:

" I think today that we were very, very professional. We knew obviously we were up near the top and they were down near the bottom and in this League anyone can beat anyone. On paper it looked like we should beat them the way we did but before the game you never knew what was going to happen so we’re absolutely delighted to get the 4-0.

" Plus as well today we had Kevin Gray and Chris Billy missing so it was a good test for our squad to see if we could handle it and I think we came through with flying colours.

" I think today that we started off like a house on fire and we were able to keep it up for the 90 minutes which was great and on top of that we got the four goals. The platform was just hard work and we need to do that every week, once you do that and play football in the right areas you are going to get the right results. "

" I remember when we got the first goal that everybody said ; 'let’s get two, let’s get three', I think we knew they were there for the taking when we got the first one so early. It was up to us just to keep playing the way we were playing and apply the pressure and we knew maybe one or two more may come.

" It was a bit strange to get the first goal. I remember the headline in the paper during the week was ‘The Comeback Kings’. It’s a sign though of a good team that I think in the last few games we have been behind and we weren’t worried, we knew we’d score goals and we did, we've proved that we can come back.

" Today though we started off well and it just shows the other side. We were able to maintain it as well keeping a clean sheet which was very good.

" At half-time the manager said that it can be won and lost by us, it was up to us, we could either throw it away or go on and give them a thumping 3-0 or 4-0. The next goal was vitally important and luckily enough we got it in the first minute of the second-half which I really think killed any attack from them. It really killed the game off and it was very, very enjoyable playing from then on.

" Lummy (Chris Lumsdon) didn’t say anything about his air-shot for the last goal but I think the look on his face was saying ; ‘you jammy git, that should have been mine’. Simon Hackney did excellently, I think he ran half the pitch with it and he got a great cross in. I think there were two or three of us queueing up for it and luckily enough it came to the back-post for me and I was just delighted to get one. "

" I think it all started two years ago when we beat Torquay. Simmo (Paul Simpson) was moulding his own team at that stage because you were getting the likes of Kevin Gray, Tom Cowan, Andy Preece and a few more players in at the time and he was moulding his own team.

" That was the turning point and from then on we’ve gone on an amazing run, obviously we got relegated but we nearly got safe that year which was unbelievable considering the position we were in and then we got promotion last year.

" At the moment we are sitting second in the table, we can only worry about the next game which is Shrewsbury away, but we’re in a very good position and we’ve got to just keep playing the way we are playing.

" I think today was one of those days where we were going to see how good the squad was. The players who stepped in were absolutely brilliant, they did their job to 100% and you couldn’t ask any more of them. It just goes to show we have got a quality squad and if we can manage to keep everybody fit and free of suspensions then you never know, we’ve just got to keep going and keep playing the way we are playing. "
