Rotherham's Paul Hurst
Millers full-back Paul Hurst spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield after his side's 1-0 defeat against Carlisle at Millmoor this afternoon that put the final nail in Rotherham's relegation coffin, Hurst, who has been with the Millers for over 14 years, talking about the prospect of playing League Two football next season :

" It's extremely disappointing, it's hard to put into words, it's not a nice feeling - although I haven't been out there this afternoon you are still part of it. You could see at the end there that the lads are stood on the pitch and they are distraught. It's nothing to do with the game, the game is done now. Obviously people keep on saying about the minus ten points but we still don't know if that would have been enough because there are still three games left. Just at the moment I'm in a little bit of shock though and I'm extremely disappointed.

" It was always going to be an uphill battle but we got ourselves in a good position. At one time, it seems silly now, but a lot of the talk was about maybe a play-off place, realistically that was always probably a little bit optimistic to say the least. We lost the two players in January (Lee Williamson and Will Hoskins) which I think is obviously another point that you have to look at. I still think we had enough in the squad though, things haven't worked out, obviously we went on an extremely disappointing run which cost manager Alan Knill his job.

" Things changed and Mark Robins has had some good results recently but we gave ourselves too much to do. Unfortunately I have been relegated before and it's hard to compare, it seems a long time ago, not from this division but the Championship. There are some good players here but it will be interesting now to see who is here next season. I think, after the initial disappointment of today, I'm sure that Mark Robins and his staff will start thinking about next season. Maybe he'll use the three games left to look at a few things ready in preparation for next year.

" Relegation was never really considered in the dressing-room, whenever it's mathematically possible then you've always got that hope. We touched on it before, it was always going to be an uphill struggle but you've got to believe. Results have picked up, we played well over Easter and we had given ourselves a very slim chance, obviously we were reliant on other results as well.

" Today there was nothing really in the game, I think we probably had the best chance with Delroy Facey but he hasn't managed to put that one in. Their goal that they got was a little bit scruffy but that has been the story of our season. I don't think many teams have really turned us over and given us a good beating. Some of our performances have shown that we can compete with the best teams but we haven't been good enough over the season.

" I think we have to continue our plan for the Championship. People aren't going to like hearing it but realistically when we were in the Championship we were fighting above our weight and to me that is a fact. Some people might argue with that but I think that we certainly should be a League One side. You never know, if things are done right you can build to be a Championship side. League Two is not an easy league though, I personally don't think there is too much difference between the two leagues.

" I think there are obviously a few better players in League One but in general I don't think there is a massive difference. We found that when we have played teams in League Two in cup competitions we haven't fared too well so that is something that we will have to address. It will be up to the manager to get the right balance of players to hopefully have a much better season next year. "
