Blues manager Neil McDonald
United boss Neil McDonald spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey tonight as he gave his opinion on Carlisle's late 1-0 away defeat at Ashton Gate, McDonald talking about the need to take chances and make the most of possession on the road :

" We certainly weren't beaten by the better side on the night, we've had three great chances in the first half when we've hit them on the counter-attack. I can't really remember them having a shot on goal to be fair, possibly one from five or ten yards outside the box. I was pleased with the first half performance, in the second half I thought that we just sat back a little bit too much and invited a bit of pressure. Then when you create three really good chances in the first half you have to stick one of them away because they are the home team and are bound to come into it in the second half.

" Then it's just a little lapse in concentration and we've been punished, how I see it is that they've had two half-chances, wide with a header and then they have scored with a real chance and it's bitterly disappointing. Sometimes it falls for you and sometimes it doesn't and we have to take that on the chin. The performance I thought was really good in the first half, in the second half we just sat back a little bit too much and invited the pressure on. They have gone long ball, I don't think they played that much football to be fair, we've just succumbed to a loss of concentration and a really good finish from their centre-forward.

" He (Kevin Gray) is having stitches so we'll so how that is, the doctor is giving him a few stitches on his headwound so we'll see how that is. The Karl Hawley chance that landed on the bar was the best move in the second half, I wouldn't say that it was the best move of the game though. It is disappointing but we have to take it on the chin. We've been beaten away from home again, I think 0-0 would have been fair I suppose with the lack of chances that they have had, we've just been punished right at the end with a lack of concentration in not clearing the ball.

" I think we had three great chances in the first half, to be fair their keeper (Adriano Basso) has had a little bit of luck where the ball has bounced and hasn't run away from him. It just hasn't fallen for us and that was slightly disappointing at half-time because the performance in the first half was really good. We contained them and they are supposed to be one of the teams for promotion so I was happy with that, but it's very, very disappointing for everybody that we've lost the game in the end.

" We have to pick the players up now which we have done after away defeats before, we'll certainly do that and we'll look forward to Saturday now. The fans who travelled have been fantastic, they get behind their team and that's all the team wants. As I've said before we've let them down with a lapse of concentration near the end where I think 0-0 would probably have been a fair result. "
