Blues manager Neil McDonald
United boss Neil McDonald spoke to the assembled press about the disappointing 2-1 Boxing Day reverse at Bloomfield Road :

"In the first half we started quite slowly and I wasn't too happy with that, but the second-half performance was fantastic and we only needed the rub of the green to get something out of the game.

"Sometimes football kicks you in the teeth and that's what conceding an own goal after six minutes does to you. Keigan) Parker is very quick and he and (Wes) Hoolahan were working well together. We know that in this division pace can be a real asset."

McDonald also commented on the ongoing Karl Hawley and Peter Murphy new contract saga :

"We are still in discussions with them - and we are very hopeful that both will sign. Karl is a goalscorer who is strong, a good finisher and can play with his back to goal. It's just a pity his 50th goal for the club didn't get us a point or even three. We are desperate for him to stay. It would be great if he comes out and says ‘my future' is at Carlisle United. We are doing our best to secure his services.

"Obviously when players are out of contract at the end of the season, people come to watch them. And we have had a lot of scouts. But the club is talking to them (Hawley and Murphy) and they haven't said no. They are both in the team. Our fingers are crossed. But it's not just them who play well for Carlisle."
