Neil McDonald
United boss Neil McDonald spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Sunday afternoon as he gave his opinion on the 0-0 draw away to ten-man Oldham Athletic. McDonald commenting on some poor decisions and finishing that led to only gaining one point in a game Carlisle had dominated for long periods :

" No cutting edge today, I was really pleased with the work up until the final third, we've passed it, we‘ve looked strong, we've looked fit, we've come in in waves and waves but unfortunately we haven't stuck it in the back of the net, which is very, very frustrating. I'm pleased with everything else, although they've created a couple of chances in which our goalkeeper has been spot on, and we've had a little bit of luck off the post.

" Even when they went down to ten men I thought we bossed the game, they hardly came over the halfway line, they've had a couple of chances I suppose but I'm really, really frustrated that we haven't stuck the ball in the back of the net. I think it's totally different to the Yeovil game, I think we've created a lot of chances today as we did at Yeovil when we got beat, all-in-all we've come away with a point but it's frustrating that we haven't come away with three.

" It's one point and we've won our home game so that's four points, if you keep on getting four points every two games then you've got one hell of a chance, but it is frustrating when they go down to ten men. I thought they were very unfortunate to do that, I think it was a bit harsh on the goalkeeper but some things like that happen, and we just needed a killer touch. We didn't find it though, we've hit the crossbar, we've had shots, we've missed the target, we haven't slid the right ball through, we've got behind them and we've crossed it so we've done everything we possibly could apart from stick the ball in the back of the net.

" We didn't miss bringing Derek Holmes on as it was wave after wave, there was no need to change it, that would maybe just have stopped the rhythm I suppose. We've inter-linked, we've played a long ball, we've got through, we've played one-twos, we've got through, we've gone behind and doubled-up, we've got through and then we just couldn't stick the ball in the back of the net.

" It's not just the three forwards, it's the three midfield players who've got to take responsibility as well, when we have that many free-kicks and corners as well then the defenders have to take responsibility and try and get across their man to try and head in on goal. So, it's not just the forwards, it's the whole team when we attack, it's their fault that we haven't scored, and luckily we've kept a clean sheet and kept the back-door shut really.

" Chris Billy hurt his groin yesterday so we'll wait until the swelling goes down and then we'll get that checked out, Neale McDermott will probably be struggling for Cheltenham and Derek (Holmes) will be fit for training on Tuesday. It's a week leading up to the transfer deadline, yes we're trying to bring somebody in to try and strengthen the squad which I said when I first came that we are trying to do that, and we'll be on the phone all week probably. The offer we put in has been and gone and we'll move on to the next one, there are all different avenues for different positions so we'll keep on chasing.

" Charlton would have been better at home, I'm trying not to concentrate on it too much though as we've got two or three games before that. There is an obvious link with me and Mr Dowie working together last year so it adds a little bit of spice I suppose. We'll look forward to that, it's a bonus for us but we've got very important games inbetween and that's what we must concentrate on.

" I didn't hear the draw to be fair, I was sitting in Blackpool's car-park waiting to go in because I went to watch Blackpool v Gillingham yesterday, and I had the radio on but it hadn't come on, then everybody started texting me. I thought that what will be will be but I'm slightly disappointed that we didn't get a home draw, it's another long trip but the supporters are used to it, I'm sure they'll come and support us like they have done today, I thought they were fantastic today.

" I haven't spoken to Iain Dowie yet, he's a busy man and I'm a busy man when we've got games. I've spoken to Mick Kelly who is the goalkeeping coach, he has already phoned me up, so I've spoken to him but there is plenty of time to speak to Iain. We're trying to pass the ball to each other, we're trying to move and we're trying to create chances, we've done all of that today but unfortunately we haven't scored and that is the most frustrating thing today. "
