Liam Noble Talks About His Goal

Last updated : 23 April 2011 By Thetashkentterror

United midfielder Liam Noble (LN) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) after Carlisle's 3-2 victory away to Rochdale, Sunderland-loanee Noble talking about his wonder strike that brought the Cumbrians back to 2-2 in the game :

JP

What a goal for the equaliser from you today for Carlisle, what did that feel like the second it hit your foot?

LN

To be fair I thought it was going wide to be honest, but luckily it hit the post and went in. It was the best strike I have ever hit in my life.

JP

Only your first few games as a professional footballer of course, you made your professional debut with Carlisle, is that one already your best?

LN

It is definitely my best goal, probably the best goal I will ever score to be honest.

JP

Have you scored a better one than that in training even?

LN

No.

JP

Amazing that you can do that at such a crucial time in the match as well?

LN

To be fair the space just opened up for me and I thought why not? I just hit it and I hit it so sweet it just flew in to be fair.

JP

What was it like against that Rochdale side? They are battling to try to make it into the play-offs but Carlisle proved themselves a match today?

LN

We knew we had to match them for the tempo and the workrate and all that, and to be fair the lads did that, and then when we got the ball we did well with the ball as well today, so it was good.

JP

You have been a star ever since arriving on loan from Sunderland, but in a way since the real flair of Ben Marshall has gone out of the team you have had perhaps more responsiblity and you have thrived on that, and you have looked even better in recent games, how do you keep doing it?

LN

I will just keep on fighting, there are a couple of games left and all the lads have said we will put it in for the last three or four games because we have got six weeks off after that. So, Bez (James Berrett) has done well in Ben's position since he has gone out, so we are doing really well, I think we will keep on going for the last three games.

JP

You have sort of got the three men behind you haven't you, Berrett, (Paul ) Thirlwell and (Tom) Taiwo and you can sort of operate in front of them, although you were dropping deeper as the game went on today as well. Where do you see your favourite role in the team?

LN

I like playing left of the diamond in midfield, I don't really like playing higher up to be honest. I am doing OK at the minute but Bez played higher up today and we kept on switching to be fair. But, I will just play anywhere, as long as I am playing I am happy.

JP

There has been some talk about your future and maybe hopefully Carlisle trying to get you on loan again next season, Greg Abbott has expressed his desire to do that. Do you know any more on that at this stage yourself?

LN

I am not too sure how it is going to happen at the minute but I would love to come back to be honest. If I get another season out playing games that is what I want to do, I just want to play games to be honest.

JP

When you are at your age is that all you want to do rather than going back and being in the reserves I suppose at Sunderland trying to prove yourself there?

LN

Yeah, you just want to be playing games don't you at any age really, you just want to get as many games in as you can.

JP

An do you think with the addition of maybe one, two, three players for next season Carlisle United could be challenging where Rochdale are? Where you have just maybe knocked a big dent in them trying to for the play-offs?

LN

Definitely, I think we are more than capable even with the squad we have got to push for the play-offs next season, but if we get a couple more players in as well it will be a great help.

JP

And I just heard you in the tunnel talking to the Carlisle press officer (Andy Hall) about not only your goal but Matty Robson's goal, a quick word for your team-mate there, what a strike that was from him?

LN

Oh, what a strike, he practices them nearly every day in training to be fair, they normally go all over in training but today it went straight in, so he did well.

JP

He has been practicing them on the pitch ever since Exeter as well in truth?

LN

Yeah, today practice made perfect and it came off today, so well done to him.

JP

Can you explain how it works that free-kick? He has got almost no run-up, no real backlift, he just sort of strikes it with the toe?

LN

He just puts the ball down and hits it where the valve is and just takes two steps and hits it with the inside of his foot. The ball moves all over so the keepers haven't got........... The keeper (Owain Fon Williams) has got a hand to it so he has done well.

JP

Can you do that?

LN

No.

JP

And the final few games of the season, starting on Easter Monday are you looking forward to the run-in in your final few games of this term?

LN

Yeah, we know we need to put it in for the last three games for us, ourselves and obviously the fans as well, they pay their money to come and watch us so we will do that.

JP

It must have been great as well having that many at an away match here  today?

LN

Oh, it was great, the fans were great today, there were loads and loads of them today. The noise was unbelievable, that eggs us on and cheers us on as well.
