Liam NobleNew United permanent signing Liam Noble (LN) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Paul Newton (PN) at Thursday afternoon's press conference for the local media, Noble saying he just wants to get back into the Carlisle starting eleven after spending the first half of the season on loan at Brunton Park :

LN

It's great to have it done, obviously I just want to get back playing now trying to get back into the starting eleven.

PN

Did you need to think about it much?

LN

Well, no, I wanted to go back to Sunderland just to make sure that I wasn't getting a sniff round there, so obviously the first choice was Carlisle after that.

PN

Was there always a feeling going back to Sunderland that you maybe knew deep down perhaps that there wasn't a longer term future with the club?

LN

Yeah, obviously I just wanted to make sure for my own head basically when the new gaffer (Martin O'Neill) came in at Sunderland. Obviously, then when I knew I didn't have a chance there I rang the gaffer (Greg Abbott) up straight away and he just said that there was a contract still on the table for me.

PN

What did the manager say to you in that conversation?

LN

He just said yeah and that he would come and meet me, I met him yesterday and obviously it was done within an hour because he knew what I wanted and we came to an agreement and it wasn't hard and we got it done.

PN

Was there interest from other clubs?

LN

Well, obviously there were people saying that there was interest here and there but I knew deep down I wanted to come back here to be honest, so as long as the contract was still here off Greg, which it was, then I was probably always going to sign it.

PN

How important has it been for you to get some regular first team football with Carlisle?

LN

Obviously, it has been great, at the start of the season I have been playing as well so I have got 50 games under my belt. Obviously, the fans know what I am doing, the gaffer and Kav (Graham Kavanagh) know what I can do so hopefully I have shown them enough and there is more to come hopefully.

PN

And as a footballer I guess it is important to feel wanted as well?

LN

Yeah, exactly it, obviously I feel wanted here, I have been in the starting eleven and in and around, the lads are great, obviously all the boardroom and all the staff here are great so it was a no-brainer really, obviously it was where I wanted to come so it was great.

PN

How important was the manager Greg Abbott in making your mind up?

LN

Well, yeah, obviously him and Kav were the main reason that I came, obviously they on the training pitch and off the training pitch keep a lookout on what I am doing and make sure I am on the right tracks. It is just everything was 100% right to come here, so I just need to get back playing as I say.

PN

How ambitious do you still remain? You have left a club at Premier League level but I guess the ambition is still there to play at Premier League level one day?

LN

Well, obviously every player wants to one day play in the Premier League, but my job now is playing for Carlisle and doing my best here, so that is what I am going to do.

PN

In a way is it a weight off your shoulders as a Newcastle fan not having to wear the red and white stripes of Sunderland any more?

LN

Oh, definitely, I will be able to support Newcastle even more now.

PN

And of course now you are signed on, you are a Carlisle United player, you have got a job I guess to try to win your place back in the side?

LN

Yeah, exactly, I have missed two games, one game through suspension and I have missed a great game on Saturday when the lads won 4-1. So, I am obviously not going to get straight back in the team but obviously I want to try to get back in the team as soon as I can.

PN

How confident are you that the team could be in the promotion mix?

LN

Definitely, it is going to be hard to break the top two, obviously Charlton, I think they are going to run away with it but the next five positions I think are all up for grabs. We get a good run, we have got the potential and we have got the players to do it, so I don't see why we can't do it and we can't finish second. But, touch wood, we will definitely get in the play-offs I think if we keep on going and all stick together as a group.

PN

MK Dons this coming Saturday, a top six clash, it has got all the makings of a great game?

LN

Yeah, it will be a great game, the lads are all up for it, it is going to be one of the harder games but you have seen here last week that we beat Sheffield United, on our day I think we can beat anyone.
