New United signing Lewis Neal spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey and Jon Colman from the News and Star on Monday morning about signing a six-month contract with Carlisle on Friday evening, Neal also talking about his time at Preston before his move to Cumbria :

" I am happy to come here, I have obviously come here and hopefully when given a chance I just want to play some games. I first heard about things on Thursday or Friday last week then I came up late on Friday afternoon to sort it all out, then I obviously came and watched the game on Saturday. So I am just looking forward to getting down to things.

" It was fine at Notts County, it wasn't a problem, it was good, I got some games in, I played about six games down there. Then for reasons that were nothing to do with myself they couldn't extend the loan any longer, they wanted to but they couldn't for obviously financial reasons for whatever situation they were in. It served a good purpose for me to go out and play some football and that is what I did, I played six games on the bounce but I had to come back for no reasons of my own. So it wasn't a bad experience at all, it was good at the time for playing some games.

" Of course I have just got to be patient now and wait for a chance to come along and when it comes I have got to obviously grab it with both hands and keep in the side. The contract is only to the end of the season but it gives me that chance to prove to the manager (Greg Abbott) and the club here that I am worth maybe another contract in the summer. It works in both ways, if things don't work out then you are not tied down to a long contract and if it does work out then it is good for me as well, so I am just looking forward to it.

" I was watching on Saturday and we didn't get off to a great start. It was a bit of an unlucky first goal which set us back we never really seemed to get going from there. You have games like that, obviously I haven't seen any other games this season so I can't really comment. On the game on Saturday though it was just one of those games where nothing really seemed to happen for us going forward-wise. "

" As for the lads though we have just got to get down to hard work again and look forward to the next game which is obviously tomorrow night. I know Den (Dennis Booth), I think that everybody knows Den don't they to be fair. Den is a top man though so I look forward to being back around his bad banter if you want to call it that.

" Hopefully the supporters can expect me to just get that down left-wing and get some crosses in and plenty of hard work. I just look forward to getting some games really and we will go from there. I have not been injured recently but I have not played a lot of football at all so my last competitive games were obviously at the end of November.

" I think that I have had one or two friendly or reserve games for Preston since then but apart from that nothing. I have been training everyday though, I have not been injured at all this season touch wood so I am ready for action. I don't know how long I would actually last in a full 90 minutes up to now but I have just got to get through it when the chance comes and we will go from there, but if called upon then I am ready to go.

" I suppose there were a few reasons why I came here rather than anywhere else, it was a chance to just come and get some games. Plus it wasn't too far away from home, I don't want to have to just for the sake of until the end of the season to have the upheaval of moving my family and my daughter and stuff like that. "

" So it was handy in that respect that I could just travel up, it was the decision that I could just stay until the end of the season, which is obviously is in the club's favour and is going to be in my favour. I don't think that any player is ever too good to step down. There were no qualms in that at all, I just want to play football. Obviously ideally you would like to play at the highest level possible but this is my opportunity now and I have just got to try to grab it with both hands.

" It was just an ideal opportunity really, there were one or two other teams that were interested but I just, with myself I obviously know Dennis Booth and stuff. Dave Timmins is also here and there are also a few of the lads that I already know like Joe (Anyinsah). So things like that always help when you are going somewhere new.

" It was a case of, don't get me wrong, my first couple of seasons at Preston were good but last season, to be fair when Alan Irvine came in he got me back involved and I played a few games. Then I got injured and I missed quite a lot of the end of the season, but then obviously at the start of this season I have not featured in the whole season and it has been really frustrating.

" Although he did actually extend my contract there to be there for this season which was strange and obviously not to feature at all was a hard one to work out. I did enjoy my time there though, it is a very good club but as players we all move on at times and everybody has to move on, so I think that it was my time to move on. So I just look forward to what is ahead of me now. "
