Lee Miller Talks About The Game

Last updated : 09 October 2011 By Thetashkentterror

Lee MillerUnited striker Lee Miller (LM) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) following Carlisle's 2-2 League One draw at home to Brentford, Miller saying he was disappointed with the result :

JP

Man of the match, the star of that forward line for Carlisle United, the man who seems to make it tick at the moment, so no pressure on your shoulders Lee?

LM

Yeah, no pressure, disappointed obviously with the result because I thought we dominated most of the game and created a lot of chances, but that is the way it goes sometimes.

JP

The view of a lot of the fans that we have spoken to is that it was a very even match between two sides who really wanted to play football, was it a pleasure to have that here because too often teams come to Brunton Park and try to park the bus?

LM

Yeah, I thought it was an open game for a neutral coming to the game, it was a great game to watch, end to end stuff, a lot of chances, a lot of free flowing play to be honest and I thought we played really well and we can take a lot of positives out of the game.

JP

How is the confidence doing then because with the run that United were on all of a sudden now this is I think one defeat in five and you are really playing well against some pretty decent teams at the moment, in particular these today, you have been a match for a side who certainly at the start of the season expected to be right up there and walloped Charlton in the week?

LM

Yeah, they are a good side, a really good side, you could see that with the players that want to play football. But, I thought we got stuck right in, stuck to our task and I thought we did well throughout the game.

JP

I saw them in the week play that match against Charlton by way of research basically for this match and they really got into the Addicks faces, they really made sure they stopped their players, is that something Greg (Abbott) talked to you about in the build up to this game, making sure that you return the favour?

LM

Yeah, it was, that is part of our game to be honest, we try to rat teams down and not let them play their game on our home pitch. So, I think we did that, we did that relatively well in the first-half and I think we created a lot of chances. We just didn't capitalise when we were on top, it was the time to score a goal and we just didn't get that cutting edge in the final third.

JP

Almost a surprise today given your start here at Carlisle United that you are not on the scoresheet, how do you feel about that?

LM

Er, obviously disappointed, being a striker you want to score every game but I felt I contributed to the team, I think it was a real team performance and I thought we fought hard.

JP

And not scoring but getting voted man of the match, I guess in the eyes of the fans really suggests why you are quite important to this team?

LM

Erm, I don't look at it that way, I just try to contribute as much as I can to the team. I thought it was a real team performance, you could go throughout the full team and there wasn't a passenger as they say, we all mucked in and we did really well, and it was a real team performance.

JP

And how are you enjoying having so much football here, because of course at Middlesbrough you were struggling to get a look in at times there, it must have been very disappointing and it must be great to be here doing this?

LM

Yeah, it is great to get a run of games, the manager (Greg Abbott) has shown a lot of faith in me and I think it is a really good bunch of lads, we all stick together and fight for the cause, to be honest it is great to be involved in that.

JP

How have you found your relationship with Loy up top, Rory Loy, he has been a player who, a fellow countryman of course for you, but United have been looking for a combination upfront, I know that they don't always play with two men upfront, but it seems that your link up with him is at times on the edge of telepathic?

LM

Yeah, it is good, he reads my flick-ons really well, the same as J-P (Jon-Paul McGovern) when he came back into the side today. I thought we worked really well as a three to be honest, but it is just great to get a run of games and play with the players that I am playing with, and we are all striving to do the right thing. I think the manager can see that and he is chuffed with us.

JP

Is it important getting that understanding as the man who is sort of the focal point in a forward line? Because, at times he is the frustrated genius Francois Zoko because he plays good balls into good areas but people don't read what he is going to do, so you can play as much flick-on or whatever, if the people don't read around you what you are trying to do then it is going to look worse than it actually is?

LM

Yeah, it is hard to be honest having the end of flick-ons and it is hard to read, you have just got to gamble, it is as simple as that, you have got to gamble in behind. I think we did that today and we were just inches away from getting in behind and getting on the end of some of them, so we are doing the right things, we are striving to do the right things and go the right way.

JP

Some of the dizzy heights of the SPL to some of the heights of the Championship with Middlesbrough, now you have got a trip to Yeovil to look forward to, I bet you can't wait for that one?

LM

Yeah, I have been there before, I was there with Bristol City years ago, but that is going to be a tough place to go. Hopefully we can go down there with the same attitude and application that we showed today and we will hopefully get the three points.
