Lee Bradbury Talks About The Game

Lee BradburyCherries boss Lee Bradbury spoke to BBC Radio Solent and the Bournemouth Daily Echo after his side's 1-0 League One defeat against Carlisle at Brunton Park, Bradbury saying that the Cherries need to be a bit more clinical in taking their chances :

"I am really disappointed, on another day we could have scored a couple of goals, I think we need to be a little bit more clinical in the chances we get. Carlisle only really had one, a clearance dropped straight to them and a tap-in from six or seven yards. So, we are disappointed, I thought we defended well today really and made a couple of chances and on another day we should have won the game really.

"It is three defeats on the spin and it is not great for us obviously, the lads are devastated but we have got to keep the self-belief and keep the togetherness that we have got and the determination to be successful as a group. I am sure we will come out on top in the end, you get little dips in form and it has just come at the wrong time towards the end of the season.

"Things are still fundmentally sound, but the fundamentals don't win you matches, points do and we haven't picked any up in the last three games, so that is the reality of it. I thought we were worthy of at least a point today, but, obviously you say you get what you deserve but I don't think we did today. It is just one of those things, one of those games where I think we should have won really.

"(Danny) Ings works very hard for the team and he just needs to work a little bit on his finishing, but he is a young lad, you can't expect him to have his all-round game at 18. He comes in and does a great job for the team and he will get goals, he just needs a little bit of confidence and he needs those to go in for him and he will go flying I'm sure. But, as long as he keeps getting in those situations you can't really say too much about it really, he has just got to have 100% self-belief in himself."

"I took Marc Pugh off because I wanted to go 4-3-3 and go for it with Jayden (Stockley's) height a little bit and holding the ball up well, throw it in there a little bit. Pughy has had a hard last couple of days, obviously he has had a little girl so he is probably mentally tired as well. So, just to rest him and go for it a little bit and try to get the goal. Shwan Jalal in goal is carrying a little bit of an injury with his back, he needs to see a specialist about it and I think it has got him on a couple of his decisions today. He got caught a little bit with the wind I think on the free-kick, but thankfully they didn't score from it.

"It would be nice to have somebody like Symesey (Michael Symes) – a bit more experienced and with a bit more presence up front. It is no secret we have been looking for somebody like that. There is nobody out there at the moment, that we have seen, that could come in and have an immediate effect for us. Symesey is probably only a week away from playing so, hopefully, we will have him back soon. I thought we missed him on today.

"I'm not really seeing enough on my bench at the moment, we didn't really have a lot of experience on the bench today, apart from the big 'un (Steve Fletcher) none of them have played over ten games probably each. So, I haven't got a lot of experience on there at the moment, but we have got a lot of lads that are injured that are coming back and can strengthen the squad and make real good additions for the final push of nine games.

"I just think it is having the self-belief now that we can be successful, it is the same group of players in there that have been on a great run. They just need to keep believing that we can go on and do well, we have got nine cup finals left and we have just got to see where it takes us. We can't worry about what other teams are doing, we just need to go on and do our best week in and week out, and I know that the group of lads that we have got in there will.

"We have been there or thereabouts all season and teams do have dips, and this seems to be one we are in now, three games on the spin. But, it is up to us to dig ourselves out of it and make a final push for it and see where we end up. We have got enough quality about the team to go on and do well, and I believe that, the team believe it, and that is all that matters really."

While Cherries left-back Stephen Purches, who made an early return from injury in the game, told his club's official website :

"I was pleased to be back and personally, pleased with my performance. Ultimately though it's about the team winning and unfortunately it wasn't meant to be. They had pressure from set pieces more than anything, and throughout the game, we created enough chances to have got something. We had some good opportunities, but we didn't take them. It was a disappointing goal to concede, and we seem to be conceding scrappy ones at the moment. Apart from the goal, you look over the rest of the game, and they haven't created much more.

"It is frustrating, but we have to dust ourselves down and we can't let three defeats turn in to four and we are all in it together to make sure that doesn't happen. For myself, I was pleased and I felt fit, which is important when you aren't playing. Sometimes when you have been out for a while, your match sharpness isn't there, but I was pleased with what I did. I felt good and hopefully I've shown that I'm ready for any role in the team, and that's what I want to do."
