United midfielder Kevan Hurst spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips at Tuesday's open press conference for the local media, Hurst first talking about Carlisle's much better run of form recently :

" I feel that it just breeds confidence when you get those results that things start to go for you and the atmosphere is a lot more happy. It is because no-one wants to be losing and no-one wants to be down there in a battle for relegation. So it is just a general more positive atmosphere around the place.

" I think the second goal at a new club is the hardest to get when you have got the first one so early. But I just want to kick on and score as many as I can, two came in quick succession so hopefully a few more will come in recent weeks.

" I enjoy that role in there behind the strikers. Against Norwich that is where I scored my goal from, making the runs and I enjoy it inside because I feel like I get involved a bit more. When I don't get involved on the wings sometimes I switch off a little bit, where Greg (Abbott) has done a good job in switching me back on.

" He gets on to me and stuff so that is sort of embedded in my mind now. But I do enjoy that central role and as long as I have got players round me like Tom (Taiwo) who can tackle or whatever then see I myself in there. But it just up to the gaffer and I am at home on the wing so it his choice.

" You look at the results that we have had against the teams that have been relegated, and Leeds. You just don't feel that there is anyone in this league that we couldn't beat. For me the thing is consistency and we are starting to get that now, even in the results in the cup, I think in the last nine games we have won six or seven and only lost a couple or so. "

" If we can keep that sort of form then we can be up there in the play-offs, but it is just all about the consistency for me and the consistency of the results. Whether it is a bad performance, you still need to get the result and that is just basically what we have been working on recently, getting results out of the games and the performances will come with that.

" It is just that mindset really playing against the bottom teams, you have just got to have that mindset to treat every game exactly the same. I think we benefit against better teams because they play better football. I think that going into a game against Wycombe, no disrespect to Wycombe as they have come up and they are doing alright, but I feel we have just got to get our minds set on the fact that they are down there.

" It is harder for us because they are down there, they have got nothing to lose. So that is where it becomes difficult, you have got to keep that organisation and everything. You can't just turn up and think we are going to win because they are down there, so it is harder for us really.

" My life is pretty settled in general really, I am enjoying it up here and I just want to keep performing. My outside life, I don't try to let it cross swords with my personal life. So I am enjoying it, I am just enjoying life in general.

" It is hugely important for the club to keep Adam Clayton, Vincent Pericard and Tom Taiwo. Tom does a great little job in midfield, his tackling and his tenaciousness is what we need in that midfield. Obviously Vince has come in and his performances speak for himself really.

" He holds the ball up really well and it enables us to get around him and play in the final third of the opposition. That is where we need to be playing our stuff and that is where we are penetrating their defences. But Adam has come in and done well as well so they are three big players for us and we have got to keep hold of them if we can. "
