MK Dons boss Karl Robinson spoke to BBC Three Counties Radio after his side's 2-0 League One win over Carlisle at stadium:mk, Robinson pleased that the Dons got off to a bright start in the game:

"We felt we needed to start brightly, we didn't start too well against Blackburn the other night and we wanted to get right up against them. We wanted to make it difficult for them and create chances, and we did that on a number of occasions, I thought our play probably deserved more than we got. Again, chances missed, but we have seen it so many times here at stadium:mk where we have been so dominant and not got the second, and the opposition have then nicked one out of nothing, and then you are backs against the wall.

"But, we looked very comfortable out there, it was very pleasing for me today and it was a good day at the office. We had a blip and we have put it to bed and we have won the next two games on the bounce, and this is a fantastic win and something we are very pleased about because I thought we looked very strong and you can see the strength in depth in the squad.

"That is a good Carlisle side as well, and Jake Jervis and Danny Cadamarteri upfront cause immense problems, (Matt) Robson on one side, we know the quality he possesses. So, we always knew that we would be up against it here today, and they have got Jon-Paul McGovern as well who we all know very well who has got tremendous quality.

"So, that is a very, very good Carlisle side that meant we had to be at our best to compete today. I thought for 20 minutes at the start of the second-half Carlisle were excellent and really put us up against the wall. Once we got to grips with them and people had a bit of a go at each other and dragged us out of the mess we were in because they are good professionals, then we went from strength to strength from there."

"I just felt that because we felt a bit comfortable in the first-half that we then thought we just had to turn up after half-time. Carlisle are a good side, if you don't take it seriously then you are going to find yourself on the wrong end of a result. It showed last year, we got beat in that fixture last year. Carlisle have always competed, especially in the early parts of the year in recent years they have always been up there amongst it up in the top six. So, we knew we had to be at our best and I was disappointed when we came off it for 20 minutes.

"That is the best the crowd have been, when we have been backs against the wall they have responded really well and really did get behind the players. It just shows what a difference they can make when we do respond like that and the players responded to it. Thank you very much, it does mean a lot to us, it does galvanise us, it does give us an injection of energy. It gave us standards, it gave us belief, and that was the most important thing for us was the belief that it gave us to go on from strength to strength and get the second.

"It was nice to see Ryan Lowe get the goal, Charlie MacDonald has put in a tremendous work-rate and shown tremendous character as well and the fans have taken to the two of them. It is really healthy competition, it makes them work harder and it is a tremendous togetherness, they realise they have to have that to push each other and keep each other's standards high.

"Daniel Powell shouldn't really have played in the second-half as he had a stomach upset which meant he was very fatigued. He came through it well and looked like he was full of energy, his decision making first-half wasn't what I expect it to be, for instance he gets the slowest player on the pitch in a one v one and wants to come inside to where the bodies are, if the penny drops with him then he is going to be one of the biggest forces in the league this year.

"Jimmy Bullard got in a great position late on but he wanted to give Charlie MacDonald a goal, he got people in and he got people playing in the short time he was on. He is a tremendous asset to us and a tremendous footballer, which I think the fans have seen here today. The fans responded great to him, it was almost like a cult following when he came on the pitch and he is a tremendous character to have in the dressing room and he understands the shape and the work ethic."
