Joe Simpson, son of United manager Paul, spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Tuesday evening as he gave his thoughts on the tough two leg aggregate victory over the Silkmen in the LDV Vans Northern Area Final :

" It was an unbelievable achievement by the team. When you think about it two years ago when we were struggling and getting nowhere and now you see 2200 people here down from Carlisle on a Tuesday night when it is soaking wet and freezing. It’s unbelievable to get to Cardiff again, we’ll hopefully get another big crowd and do the team proud, it’s a great achievement.

" The fans were ecstatic at the end of the match and rightly so, they’ve come down here, it’s a long way down to get here. You look at the weather, it’s horrible and raining, to get the win means everything to all of them, it’s unbelievable. It’s definitely been worth it though, it takes anything, you get soaked and you’re not bothered, to get to Cardiff means the world, you’d stand out for another three hours celebrating if it meant you’d get there.

" My dad is usually a nightmare to get anything out of to be honest, he’ll keep his things to himself but I think he’ll be chuffed tonight, he’ll be really pleased. Coming from 2-0 down the lads showed great character to get back in again and it means a lot to all of them. You see them celebrating, they’ve deserved it, they’ve done really, really well, to knock out some of the teams they have knocked out is fantastic. "
