United defender Josh Gowling spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey after Carlisle's 1-0 loss at home to Hartlepool, Gowling suggesting that all the players are still behind manager John Ward :

" Of course we are playing for John, everyone loves John Ward to bits, we know that he has got a tough job and we know that there is a lot of expectation this season. We have come and we have started and we have not started brilliantly, but everyone is behind John Ward and we want to do the best for him.

" It was better in the second-half but it still isn't good enough is it. What is that now, seven or eight games on the bounce now that we have lost? So it is just not acceptable, we put in a half-decent performance today but it still not good enough. The fans should expect better and they deserve better, so hopefully over the coming weeks we can do a lot better.

" We are seven or eight games without a win now so obviously the confidence is going to be low in the camp. So the fans aren't going to see what the players are used to doing, because the confidence is low, passes go astray that shouldn't and players don't get into positions like they should.

" We can take a little bit of positives from the game today, I know that we have lost 1-0 and that it maybe wasn't the best performance, but we have come off a 5-0 drubbing on Saturday. Then we have come here and we were unlucky not to get at least a 1-1, Danny Graham had a great chance in the second-half and it is just not going our way at the moment. The lads are going to stick together though, we are a great bunch of lads and hopefully we are going to turn it around. "

" I don't really know what happened with the goal, he (Andy Monkhouse) put a great ball in, I have tried to get as much on it as I could and I think that the defenders behind me thought that I wasn't going to get to it. So I think that they have kind of dived in expecting it to come through and it hasn't, so I think that the striker (James Brown) has managed to run in and he has just put it the wrong side of Ben (Alnwick), so it was just unlucky.

" It is a young bunch of lads here so there is always going to be banter there. We might not be taking the same because we are not doing as well but it is all still there. We want to stick together, we are disappointed, we are going on the pitch and things aren't going well for us at the moment. We are going to turn it around though, we are going to stick together and we are 100% behind John Ward, and we hope that he stays.

" At the end of the day we do training all week, John does training with us, he does our tactics, he does everything. Come 7.45pm tonight or 3pm on a Saturday though, we step onto the pitch and it has got nothing to do with John. It is the players out there and if we are not doing well then you can't necessarily just put that down to the manager, it has got to be the lads as well. So I think that it is a bit unfair for everyone just to put that on John.

" We just want to get out there now on Saturday, the games are coming thick and fast and that is what we want to be honest. Because we are in a bit of a slump at the moment, so bring on the games. We have got a fighting spirit and we are going to go out there every week and we are going to try our best. "
