Jordan CookNew United loan signing Jordan Cook (JC) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) on Monday lunchtime after penning a one month deal at Brunton Park from Sunderland, Cook happy to be at Carlisle :

JC

I was glad to hear it when I got the word that the gaffer (Greg Abbott) here was after me and as soon as I got the nod from Martin O'Neill then I wanted to come straight away.

JP

How important is it to players of your age hoping to make it at clubs like Sunderland to come out and get this sort of experience?

JC

Yeah, especially when you are playing for the reserves, I have been playing for the reserves for a while now and I had a spell at Walsall last season and it did the world of good for me, and obviously to come here is going to improve me even more I think.

JP

You are all flushed, you have clearly been out training with your new team-mates, how have you found that?

JC

Yeah, very good, all welcoming, obviously I know a few of the players like Liam Noble so it is easy to fit in really.

JP

Is he one of the people who perhaps gave you a bit of advice about this move to Brunton Park?

JC

Yeah, well Nobsy came back with us and trained a few weeks ago, and the manager here was after me then as well. So, obviously when I came it was straight in and I knew Kav (Graham Kavanagh) as well so it was easy to fit in.

JP

Anyone else give you a bit of advice on going out on loan and having this sort of move at this stage of your career?

JC

Yeah, a few of the coaches at Sunderland obviously wanted me to come out and get more experience and stuff, because obviously I am 21 now and just playing in the reserves you can improve so much more, but to play at league level is a different type of football.

JP

In terms of the move itself, how much did you know about Carlisle United before you got wind of their interest? Coming here what do you know about them?

JC

Quite a bit to be fair, a few lads like Michael Liddle used to play here, obviously Liam was here all last year and I heard good things and stuff, and I have been playing at Walsall and obviously checking on other Sunderland players who are out on loan and Carlisle is always a good club. Just obviously being a northern lad as well you know the teams around you.

JP

Do you get wind in a squad like Sunderland of the clubs who are perhaps good to go to when you get the knock from someone like Carlisle as opposed to some other clubs? Do you think that they have got a good track record with young players?

JC

I mean, yeah, a lot of the coaches have been watching Nobs play and so they know the formation they play and it is similar to the formation Sunderland are trying to play at the moment where it is 4-3-3. So it is easy to fit into that with being used to that formation.

JP

This is always a tough one for new signings, what sort of player would you describe yourself as to fans who might not know a great deal about you?

JC

Pretty tricky, I play on the wing or upfront off a striker, so I just like to get the ball and run at people and score goals.

JP

You sound like a like for like replacement then in that respect for Rory Loy who is out injured, I suspect you have come in to help out with that, will you be able to do that sort of playing out in the wide areas or down the middle or whatever Carlisle need then?

JC

Yeah, hopefully that is the plan, wherever they need us, whether it is on the wing or through the middle then hopefully I can fit in.

JP

And how are you in front of goal? I suppose that you can only ever prove that on the pitch itself but are you the sort of player who likes to take the shot on, likes to score himself or do you prefer playing in others?

JC

No, it depends, I would rather have a shot myself like all strikers, but if there is somebody in a better position than just lay if off if it is an easier ball.

JP

What is it like coming to a club who are doing as well as Carlisle United are? Up in and around the play-offs, looking for promotion, was that important for you or would it have not really mattered which end of the table it was?

JC

I suppose it is a good thing to be fair because all the players are really high at the moment, I mean you can see when you are at training it is a good level and it is a good tempo and stuff. So, to come to a club that is doing as well as they are then it makes it easier for me as well.

JP

What sort of play are the fans going to see from you then when you get your opportunity? I know you have talked about you like to play wide or in the middle, what sort of impact do you like to have on the game yourself?

JC

I like to think that I bring a lot of pace so if I get the chance to run at somebody I will run at them and if I get the chance to shoot I will shoot.

JP

Just depends on what the opportunity is? Fair enough. And in terms of Sunderland, at this stage are you coming here with the hope to show what you can do and get back in with Sunderland do you know or are you maybe looking longer term for a future elsewhere potentially?

JC

At the moment I have only signed a month initially, but obviously if we are doing well and I am playing enough then I don't see why there is any problem staying here for a while, obviously help them get into the play-offs and stay where they are now.

JP

And will you be commuting over or will you be staying with some of the lads over here? Do you know at this stage?

JC

I think at the beginning I am just going to commute because I only live close to Durham, so it is not going to be that far, but the day before the games and stuff I will probably stay over.

JP

With the team, I know you have only just trained with them once out there, but have you already picked up on who might be the characters in there, is anyone giving you a hard time about anything already? I know what they are like with the banter as they call it?

JC

Yeah, I mean Nobs has obviously come in and tried to stitch me up straight away and obviously Francois (Zoko) is a good character, he is always smiling and stuff. The lads in general have just all been good lads.

JP

Can you tell us how Liam Noble tried to stitch you up or is it not for radio?

JC

No, it is not for radio, I don't think so.
