New United boss John Ward spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Saturday evening as he talked about the thumping 4-0 win at home to Millwall, Ward talking about what can be achieved if everyone works together :

" It was absolutely fantastic, we've just said to the boys - go and play, keep things going with what you have been doing. Your standards are obviously very high, go and show what they are, and they couldn't do any more than that, it was a fantastic 45 minutes. Even allowing for the four goals we got there could have been one or two more, it was that type of football from us.

" That's really difficult to keep going but at the same time we've excited the fans here and the sort of atmosphere in the ground then was absolutely brilliant. Everybody was together, which we've asked for everyone to do, that way we can continue to be successful. They won't always be 4-0's at half-time though, we've got a lot of work to do but it's a terrific day today and we've got to thoroughly enjoy that.

" I'm pleased for you as well as everyone else that the team have shown it at home today. When you come into a new football club you want to get off to a good start obviously and we've got on very well. The group of people that I am working with, both backroom staff and players, I've just said - go on, let's go and see what you can do.

" They didn't need to do anything different, they looked good players, every time now and again you are just trying to stop a bit of causal play coming out there. When you're in the position that we were in though it's inevitable, it's a human trait anyway but it's a good performance. The second-half itself not quite as exciting obviously but there were chances at both ends as well. "

" We had a little kick now and again, Keiren (Westwood) had had to pull a save or two off but we've also threatened to increase the lead. I think that it was a very thorough second-half and a very professional one, we didn't set out not to score or keep it at 4-0 or stop them scoring. It was, let's go and find one if we can but let's see how you deal with the position and the players were very thorough as I say in the second period which was good.

" I had to make sure that I got the right dugout because you warned me about that, and I had done so, so I was happy with that. I didn't really want any ceremony but it was a super reception from the people behind us and that filtered around the ground which was really fantastic. If I wondered how I'd be treated here then they've put me at rest there saying that - yes, we want you to do it.

" Everything has been settled very well in the last two or three days, particularly with Greg (Abbott), as I know that has been a big issue. Greg has been thoroughly professional and you've seen the fruition of a lot of his work today. I'm here talking to you but there is a lot of really good work gone on here and I'm just the guy to come and say let's keep it going because it's pretty good.

" A couple of things on Joe (Garner), he's got himself a booking and they are telling me that's his fifth one, we were a little bit concerned that there isn't a second one coming. One sort of loose tackle could lose him out but he's had three games in a week as well. He's still just 19, he's got a lot to get in that Football League strength as I call it. So it was a consideration certainly in that, let's change that, because we are 4-0 up. "

" I've got Kevin Gall, I've got Danny Carlton, we've got these guys that can come and play there. I was looking at that, Murph (Peter Murphy) has just got a little bit of a strain, he gave us a shout and has come off there, I think he's going to be OK. Really Joe Anyinsah was just sort of getting tired again, three games in the week for him. So at that stage you can give people football and we're pleased to do that with the guys that came on.

" As I've said before, I said to you yesterday, I'm the luckiest guy around at the moment because I've come into a football club that is on a high and it's pushing ahead. There is a huge amount of work been done here that has really given a good base. If anything they might just be two or three numbers short just in terms of the squad size but the quality that is in there is exceptionally good. Providing we can keep people free from injury then hopefully there are a few more good things ahead of us.

" It wasn't the easiest half-time teamtalk I've done because you worry as I said about the human trait of getting casual, everything is great, we've won it. We hadn't, we had to start all over again, sometimes you want half-time to come, sometimes you don't. Today was one of those where we didn't, just carry on please because everything is going well but it stopped.

" It allows Millwall to regroup as well and make some changes and some thoughts behind it as we had to start all over again. We talked that way to the team and I have to say that they - we gave them two or three minutes prior to me talking and that's exactly what they were saying amongst themselves. It was just me sort of confirming what they wanted from each other. "

" You've already had some experience of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy here haven't you and getting to the latter stages and doing well in it. I certainly don't disregard it, you can do a little bit, it may be a bit quieter here on Tuesday night but the longer you go in that competition the more big interest comes. We are in with a chance of doing that and I think that the players would look at me really strangely if I said - no, we'll leave that one and just get on with next week at Yeovil.

" You want to keep things going, we might make the odd alteration here and there or whatever but it will not be to the detriment of the team. Certainly not with the view not to progress, I want to win that game as I want to win every game. I don't take it lightly at all.

" Today is a fantastic day, at any football club, if support, team, management and everybody is working hard together and they can stick together. Today is a great day, it was an easy day in a sense to do it. When we are here though and a goal down to somebody and it's raining and it's not so clever then that is the day that we need everybody to pull together to get back in and get back on.

" To be fair you lost here to Tranmere Rovers in a game I did see and the team and the people have come back from that so it is possible. It's good to have it though, it's good to hear the noise, it's good to see the backing for the team, and the team, sometimes they have to respond to that and today everybody has responded really positively. It's a huge standard to maintain but we will try very hard. "
