John Ward
United boss John Ward spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Friday evening as he talked about Cleveland Taylor's form at the moment, Ward also chatting about tomorrow's match at home to Yeovil :

" I can't understand what the fuss is about regarding Cleveland (Taylor), I think that he has done very well since he came into the club. We brought him in in January when he had had six weeks out of the game, he had lost a bit of time in terms of regular football and was playing catch up. He was a major part though with the rest of the boys in getting us into fourth place, into play-off positions. This season he has been a little bit unfortunate not being in the staring line-up because the front four, and Scott Dobie particularly has done well in that position.

" As you saw on Tuesday night Cleveland has been absolutely ready to go and has been a vital member of the squad and a very important person for this team. On Tuesday he did some really, really good things in a second-half that was certainly a tough one for us. The young fellow has done well though and I am really pleased for Cleveland, he is a good guy.

" Ronnie (Wallwork) has come through a contact with Greg Abbott, we said to him to come and have a bit of training. He is based in Manchester and he knows a little bit about Carlisle, he has been here before so we just said to come up and train with us. He is not connected with a club, he will probably play in a reserve game next week at Hartlepool for us and it really is at that stage, let's see what is going on.

" He has missed a bit of pre-season, not played any eleven v eleven football yet, so he is another one that is playing catch up in those terms. He is just training with us though and we will se where it develops. Ronnie is 30 years of age, he has been around, he has played at some good football clubs, and just at 30 he has still got things to offer. We are not going to have Chris Lumsdon around us for the next two and a half months so it is just an area that we are looking at to see if that is worthy of progressing.

" We are going to be a couple of weeks down the line with him I would have thought. Get him a couple of games in, see what level he is at and see what he wants to do as well. It is not just about Carlisle, it is about Ronnie, and he has fitted into the squad. The lads have taken to him, he has trained with us this week and really enjoyed it, and I think that the lads have enjoyed having him around. It's a question of where it goes in another two or three weeks though. "

" I don't expect much activity before the transfer window ends. I think that the squad may need strengthening in the future, we learned that last year that we need to keep an eye on things. We are hoping that Josh Gowling will play on Wednesday as well so we will get him back into the fray from next week. Obviously Scott Dobie just misses this Saturday and next Saturday and then he is in back in and around with us, so it gets a bit better as time moves on.

" I think that the difficulty for me is bringing players in, if you bring one in on loan or whatever then they will want to play. At the moment the team has done as well as it has and I can't find places for outside people to come in and take their place. Cleveland has been patient for example waiting to get in, Scott Dobie has done well but Cleveland has now got a chance and that has got to be the case.

" I have got to give these boys their head and give them their games. Not because it is right and it is a nice thing to do but it is because it is the squad thing and this group of players are very, very strong together. I think that new people in, I don't want to spoil what I have got but we don't close doors. I think that in the period that I have been here we have brought eight new faces in as well as one or two other loan players as well, so we are very active in that market.

" I think that it is really good to have two home games now, it is good for everybody, players, us, myself, everyone concerned with the football club. Supporters particularly, they have been fantastic, followed us about and supported us and now they have got a chance to come back home and have two games there. It is up to us now as a team to try to reward them for that, we did well in the last home game against Crewe.

" When you saw the fixture list and then the cup draws you thought that somebody was against us. We have stuck at it pretty well though and we have got to try very hard to make the home games count for us in terms of wins. Obviously we start tomorrow trying to win the game against Yeovil. It is a top six clash, they have been on the road well, they have won at Hereford and have won at Charlton in the cup. So they are used to travelling the same as us, they have got long journeys to make so I think that they will be OK for the trip up to Carlisle to play us.

" It's a tough game, it's a top six game because that is how we have started, they have started well and we have and the winners tomorrow, the three points will be really important. Because I think that we all want a good start and we are still in that phase of starting the season in terms of league points. So it is a big game for us and we will need the help of our supporters to try to win this match. Everyone is fit and well bar the ones we know about. We have all trained well this morning and the lads are in good mood so hopefully we can transfer that to the game. "
