Bristol City frontman Jay Emmanuel-Thomas spoke to BBC Radio Bristol and his club's official website after his side's 4-2 League One win over Carlisle at Brunton Park, Emmanuel-Thomas saying the Robins performed really well:

“It was a really good day for me and the team performed really well, we were just waiting for that first win to come and gladly this long journey paid off with a good result and we can have a good journey home. There were some stern-ish words at half-time, we knew we hadn’t played to the best of our ability, I had a good chance blocked off the goal-line by one of the defenders but we knew a goal was coming and it was only a matter of time, and we came out for the second-half fighting and wanting to get a result.

“It was a great afternoon for everybody though and hopefully now that can be the start of a good run for us. Getting the win has been more difficult the longer it has gone on, it has got very difficult and we were just waiting for that one game to click where we actually won. Now the pressure has gone we can get back to playing how we want to.

“The pressure was lifted with the final whistle, the fans are buzzing, everyone in the dressing room is happy, so everyone is just looking forward to the next game now. I think when you go a goal behind no-one’s head ever drops because it only takes one goal to get back in the game. So, it was one of those things where we just had to keep plugging away at their back four and hopefully we would get a goal, and obviously we got four.

“Two quick goals after half-time gave us the boost that we could see the rest of the game out. When they made it 3-2 it felt like the ship was going to start rocking, but we managed to settle it and get a fourth one and all of a sudden the tempo of the game faded out and we got the result. We have had a rocky start but now the atmosphere has been raised by a few levels, hopefully we can go on a good run now and climb the table.

“Three different players gave me three different assists and I am happy to play with them and I thank them for it. Probably the header was my favourite as I don’t score many headers, even though I am quite tall, but it was a really difficult ball for Brendan Moloney to put in from the angle he was at, and he put it right into the right area.

“I have only ever scored two goals in a senior game before so I am really happy to get my first hat-trick. It is a great feeling to get applauded off by the opposition fans because obviously it shows that they appreciate my performance, so hopefully I can get a few more of those. I thank all our fans as well, it is a long journey, not exactly around the corner, so I am glad that we gave them the result they wanted."
